🌟Alumni Spotlight🌟 David Benoit ’23 MPA

While working as the community relations coordinator and later deputy director of legislative affairs and community engagement for former Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza, David frequently engaged with Providence-based stakeholders, including @brownu. Eager to re-engage with his lifelong passion for music, Benoit joined Brown’s University Chorus. There he befriended some @brownmpa students who inspired him to apply to the program himself.

“Given the legislative work I had been doing for Mayor Elorza, I knew that I desired a degree from a highly reputable and rigorous graduate program that would support my goal of making a lasting impact and drive my career forward. I had been immersed in my professional life, but I recognized the privilege of meeting Watson MPA students and knowing that Brown was ‘in my backyard.’”

Three MPA students and one alumna named Presidential Management Fellows finalists 🏆✨

When the U.S. Office of Personnel Management announced the finalists for the prestigious Presidential Management Fellows program on March 8, 2024, three current @brownmpa students, Kyler Groner, Hannah Reale and Gulsima Young, and one MPA alumna, Andrea Gustafson, found their names on the list. Reale and Groner are also degree candidates in @brownu’s Master of Public Health program.

It’s an impressive achievement for both the individual students and Watson’s MPA program as a whole considering that, according to the OPM, out of 7,193 applicants this year, only 825 were selected as finalists for the class of 2024.

🌟Alumni Spotlight🌟 Adilkhan Kopabayev ’22 MPA

Adilkhan credits the @brownmpa program with endowing him with the diverse skill set he draws upon in his work. He noted the skills he developed in the program — policy analysis, advanced statistical methods, strategic leadership, and a keen focus on data-driven decision-making — form the cornerstones of his professional endeavors.

“The program instilled in me a profound appreciation for empirical evidence, emphasizing the principle that without data, you’re just another person with an opinion, where data not only informs but also drives policy development and strategic planning.”
