490 years ago today, William Tyndale gave his life for the Word of God.

On October 6, 1536 Tyndale was taken from his prison at Vilvoorde, strangled, and burned at the stake.

He had spent years translating Scripture so that ordinary English people could read the Word of God for themselves.

He knew the cost.

And he kept going.

But Tyndale’s story is not only the story of a translator.

It’s also the story of a Gospel Patron.

Humphrey Monmouth, a London merchant, opened his home to Tyndale, supported him financially, and helped make his work possible. His name is far less famous than Tyndale’s.

But his faithfulness mattered.

One man translated.
Another man supported.
God used both.

And 490 years later, we are still reading the Word and Bible translation is still happening.

That should make us pause.

What has God placed in your hands?

Your business.
Your resources.
Your influence.
Your skills.
Your opportunities.

You may never be famous.

Your name may never be remembered.

But faithfulness doesn’t require fame.

God doesn’t need you to be famous to use your influence.

He simply asks us to be faithful with what He has entrusted to us.

Today, we remember William Tyndale.
We honor his courage.
We remember Humphrey Monmouth’s generosity.

And we pray for the courage to play our own part in what God is doing.

500 years later, the Word is still going forward.

May we be faithful enough to help carry it forward.

Written by Bryan Halferty, Lead Pastor at Anchor Church & District Lead for Church Planting

The Harvest Is Here: A Courageous Yes
Fewer people go to church in the Pacific Northwest than in any other region of the United States. You know the stats. You’ve read the studies. At some point, they can start to sound like statistical white noise.

But the sky is not falling. In fact, young adults and teens are more interested in spirituality than they have been in decades. Many thinkers describe our moment as a “meaning crisis,” and people are searching for something solid enough to build a life upon. We have an opportunity to believe again that Jesus is still “the Lord of the harvest.”

And church planters exist for the harvest.

As I step into this role with ANW, I want to help train, coach, and release a wave of church planters who believe God is with them and that people will surrender their lives to Jesus through their courageous leadership.

This fall, I’m launching a church planter development track for anyone interested in exploring church planting—from high school students to those nearing retirement. It will begin with an open dinner where a church planter shares what they’ve experienced and seen God do through their courageous “yes,” followed by a cohort offering spiritual formation and practical training.

📍Tacoma Church Planting Dinner — September 28th @ 6:30pm
2401 S Orchard St, Tacoma, WA 98466

📍Salem Church Planting Dinner — January 13th, 2027 - Missio / Salem Alliance

There are other ways to participate, too:
Legacy Move: Is your church wondering about its future? Consider inviting a planter to use your building to meet in, positioning your largest asset to be a tool for Jesus’ kingdom in future generations.

Adopt a Planter: Pray for and encourage someone already planting—or beginning this church planter development track.

France – Paris Part 2 🇫🇷

“All is gift.”

The more I think about this trip, the more true those words become. Traveling with our teenagers has been such a gift. Watching them embrace new places, navigate trains and hot days, and experience another culture together has been one of my favorite parts.

Paris was just as beautiful as I remembered, and getting to experience it again with family made it even better. From seeing dear friends to navigating transportation mishaps with cousins, eating many baguettes (and lots of heat 😅), these are the moments I’ll remember.

A few more snapshots from our days in Paris. ❤️🇫🇷

France – Part 1: Paris 🇫🇷

“All is gift.”

After 3 days in Paris and 10 days on the west coast of France, we're home tired, grateful, and full of memories.

We're especially thankful for our family, who made this trip possible, and for the opportunity to experience France with our kids. They continue to amaze us with their resilience, curiosity, and willingness to embrace new places, foods, and experiences.

So grateful for this gift of time and experience together.❤️

When this video first played at @anchorchurchnw there was an audible gasp within the first 15 seconds. The congregation heard a spiritual leader being vulnerable and honest in the opening moments of the video. And it hit different.

The feeling it created was “Oh wow, we’re really going to talk about the real stuff. Ok then.”

People leaned in and watched quietly. Then many of them signed for an intensive 18-month college-level course in spiritual formation, filling up the available spots.

That’s the power of authentic human storytelling with an honest hook.

When we previewed the video with some folks on staff at Anchor, there were initially some concerns that the intro could come across as a downer. Here’s the thing. Faith isn’t just a topic to our lead creative, Paul Boyer. It’s a lived reality. Often joyful sometimes painful and confusing.

This helped him give good counsel on the creative front. He knew we would reach the people this class was intended for — people who are dissatisfied with superficial spirituality and longing for depth — if we spoke honestly to the ache we all feel at different seasons in our journey.

So we fought for the intro. I’m so glad we did.

It turns out leading with authenticity is exactly what was needed for this video (it seems to be a pretty good thing for our world too).

Good job, Anchor for leading with vulnerability and courage. We're so glad we got to partner on this and we look forward to the next one!
