POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Another 10 conversations and another reminder of why I started The Emerald Athlete.

From rowing, swimming and cycling to Gaelic football, camogie, rugby, boxing, canoe slalom and shot put, ten very different journeys and ten brilliant people who gave up their time to share their stories.

I feel genuinely privileged to get the opportunity to sit down with people from across Irish sport and hear about the highs, setbacks, sacrifices and experiences that have shaped them.

A huge thank you to Zoe Hyde, Evan Bailey, Kevin Feely, Christina Desmond, Daire Feeley, Maeve Óg O’Leary, Bryan Mollen, Katie Nolan, Eoin Rheinisch and Eric Favors for coming on.

And as always, thank you to everyone who has watched, listened, shared or supported the podcast along the way.

40 episodes down. Plenty more stories to tell. 🎙️🍀

As our first season draws to a close, we want to recognise the people and businesses who backed Gael Force from the beginning.

A huge thank you to @mig.ie our main sponsor throughout our inaugural season.

From the moment we approached MIG, they bought into what we were trying to build and their support has played a huge part in allowing us to put Gael Force on the road this year.

It was great to visit the MIG team in Dublin recently and present our Gael Force jersey to Charles McCarthy, Chairman; Brendan Harrington, CEO; and Mark Duggan, Branch Manager.

A special thanks also to CJ McCarthy for organising the presentation and for his support throughout.

MIG have also given the Gael Force community the code GF7 to use when requesting a quote for home, car or health insurance.

Simply mention GF7 when getting your quote.

Thank you to everyone at McCarthy Insurance Group for backing Gael Force in year one. We’re proud to have your name on our jersey.

“For some players, sevens gave them another opportunity to put on the green jersey.” 🇮🇪🏉

Bryan Mollen on why the Irish Rugby Sevens programme provided such an important pathway for players who might not have found their opportunity in the 15s game.

And with sevens, there was something unique — the chance to represent Irish Rugby, and potentially Team Ireland on an even bigger stage.

From player to coach. 🏉🍀

Former Ireland Rugby Sevens player Bryan Mollen joins me on The Emerald Athlete.

We chat about growing up playing rugby, his journey with Irish Rugby Sevens, the skills and culture of the game, and his transition into coaching with Old Belvedere RFC and Belvedere College.

We also discuss the future of sevens in Ireland, with Bryan still playing the game with Irish-led @gael_force_sevens , and why he believes sevens deserves more opportunities to grow.

It’s easy to execute your skills when you’re fresh. But can you still do it when you’re exhausted? 🏉

Former Ireland Rugby Sevens player Bryan Mollen on one of the biggest lessons he took from the game, being able to perform the basics under fatigue and pressure.

A lesson he’s now carrying into coaching.
