A final charge with the rising sun.

I lost my dad at 16 and my mom at 18. I had no choice but to move with my brother at Texas and figure it out on the way. Luckily my parents payed for a special insurance that covered college in case of their passing, that was my calling to return to Mexico and start an arch degree.

I remmeber the endless nights where Id cry to sleep, the classes an lectures that I didn’t pay attention because my head was full of thoughts and fear while trying to hold the tears back. Silence was so deafening, my life seemed so worthless, the thoughts of ending it all and harming myself were so present at the moment because I felt I was not good enough to go through college this way, everything seemed so broken. I always wondered how was I alive after all this, I felt that my existence was a snap of extreme good luck, I felt it would be more likely that I would die anytime rather than getting a degree.

Day after night of constant struggle with such a heavy heart I somehow pulled through, I was never truly alone after all. Met so many friends along the way that became my brothers and sisters and so many took care of me as if I was one of their own, I even met the love of my life who always held me together whenever I was breaking down. Thanks to these kind people I found endless warmth in this ice cold reality.

Even though my brother was so far away I never felt so close to him after our losses. We mourned together and we healed our wounds little by little, it was so hard at first because fear was so blinding but we learnt to take care and to understand each other better, we learnt how to love us the way it should’ve been from the start.

I thought my life was over when I lost my parents but I never thought that I would earn a new family along the way, who thought that my life was about to begin when I lost it all.

I’m sorry you weren’t here to see your youngest achieve his dreams, for you already passed the torch. My victory - your victory - I wish you could have lived to see it. Everything, your love, wisdom and thrive, you gave everything to us. And with it, we can rebuild.

Mom, dad… your son is about yo become an architect.
