@chinatifoundation / Chinati Weekend 2026 is a wrap. From weeks of conservation prep in the galleries, to the opening of Richard Long’s exhibition, followed by a conversation with the artist at the Crowley Theatre, to a special performance by Sharon Van Etten. Chinati Artist in Residence Will Boone opened his studio before collaborating with a group of Marfa local musicians at The Wild Mare to perform original songs they wrote together as a band. It was also an opportunity to experience the two Artillery Sheds, home to Donald Judd’s 100 mill-aluminum works in their full glory before a multi-year restoration closure, and to explore the grounds during Open House alongside colleagues, locals and visiting friends of Chinati. Another memorable weekend in Marfa.

Arkey Blues’ Silver Dollar Saloon, Bandera, Texas. Down rickety stairs, into a room thick with smoke and pork ribs in the crock pot.
Sawdust covered the floor. The answer was in the two-step — boots sliding across it like they’d done it a thousand times.
They don’t make honky-tonks like Arkey Blues anymore. We don’t think they make boots like they used to, either.
Our late father’s favorite song was “Fraulein” — Bobby Helms, 1957. That’s where our name comes from. Not a translation. A tribute.
This week’s theme is honky-tonk. Now you know why it’s ours.

Travel Club members enjoyed a cocktail reception at the #mérida studio of artist @shull.randy where art collectors from Texas and California got to see how he incorporates discarded hammocks into large scale paintings with a strong color pallet that involves gold leafing. “As a person who makes things, for me the details are the most important and difficult part,” said Shull, who in addition to painting, also designs furniture and restores homes. “Such as how the paint is applied, so I can pull viewers into the work.”

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been absolutely heartbroken from watching Liam Ramos suffer, hearing children cry “¡Libertad!”, and reading reports of dirty water, inadequate food, and families being illegally detained at Dilley all sent me back to my time as an art director at @sacurrent.

What’s happening now is unprecedented and far harsher, but South Texas has carried this burden for years.

I will always support immigrant families seeking safety. As a parent, I would move heaven and earth to get my kids to safety.

Immigration should be safe and fast by expanding legal pathways, processing cases in months instead of years, guaranteeing legal counsel, modernizing the system, and keeping families out of detention. A reformed immigration system would be cheaper for taxpayers, more effective, and more humane.

And the claim that immigrants drive crime is false as the majority of crime in the U.S. is committed by U.S. citizens.

Undocumented immigrants are 2–4× less likely to be arrested, and national data show immigrants are about 60% less likely to be incarcerated overall.
