October, you fell away too quickly 🍂 the Pokemon Go troupe brought their avatars to life for Halloween; I went to NYC to attend AkumuFest to share GHOST TRAIN with new readers; ran into @tokyovice at a talk with @karenattiah; celebrated love and birthdays in Charlottesville; and had adventures around DC in between GHOST TRAIN talks and workshops and an immense month of disaster response at work — more to come, lots of thoughts and feelings and action to take. But all to say: I love my life.

Chase Field - MLB Ballpark 28/30, by far the only stadium that made me feel tiny So happy to have a 2023 Dragon Con reunion with @melodicslytherin and meet Amy as this baseball side quest nears the end. Attending during Taiwanese American Heritage Night and having the precious dome seal us from the 100 degree temperature outside were a big bonus.

The Year of the Mamba. Of being tough, standing up, and wanting it more than ever. There were early mornings, hard days, long nights, and everything in between. Given opportunities to rise and conquer, I always felt like surviving and getting the job done (shoutout 5:00 AM wakeups and surviving days on no sleep) , something Kobe would approve of, brought the best of times! 2024 brought new faces, new places, new states, new records, and new glory! But, we can never forget the paths we took to get up the mountain, and I’m so glad this year brought me time with friends that have grown so much, and brought us back to some of the places where it all started (SHOUTAHT @pineviewsoccerclubpvsc )! I watched those around me climb to new heights, and I fear for the stratosphere as we march into 2025 with plans to absolutely obliterate it!!! Happy New Year!! Last week, I had my first book talk in New York City! I’m so honored that @japansociety invited me to have a live conversation with @japanculturenyc on GHOST TRAIN, my debut novel, a historical fantasy that follows samurai daughter, Maru, in Kyoto during the Meiji Restoration Era. I’m so grateful that the 117-year old organization that celebrates Japanese culture and U.S.-Japan friendship held this talk; it was the peak of the month+ long whirlwind book tour. It’s surreal to think that a book I started writing at @uoregon in 2010 is now published — and opening doors I never knew even existed. The incredible opportunities this journey has brought are unforgettable; and I am so thankful. I am so grateful to my publisher @selectbooksinc for being the champion Maru and I needed. Thank you to @peter.tatara for the enthusiastic support and incredible planning. Thank you to @japanculturenyc for the friendship, which started at a @writersdigest conference, which led to this moment. Thank you to @tokyovice for the endorsement, and the exchange last month also at Japan Society, of signing books for each other. And thank you to all of my darling friends who showed up in the rain to show their love and support. There is so much more to be grateful for. I’d need a hundred photo slots to capture the breadth of this journey and all of the loved ones who made this accomplishment possible.
