And the house is live! Beautiful to be sat beside all my fave artists for @australianchamberorchestra’s world premiere of Pinocchio. And when making a show about sons, ain’t nothing like having a Sydney adventure with the very best one

So excited for the world premiere of Pinocchio (the boy whose nose knows) with @australianchamberorchestra and its amazing musos - and doubly so because of the ridiculously talented friends it’s been made with. Folks in Sydney looking for school holiday adventures, see you there

Post concert euphoria!
These photos capture our third subs program and tour to NSW for Musica Viva at the end of October.

Two phenomenal Aussie composers in Deborah Cheetham Fraillon and Bryony Marks, a gorgeous watercolour from our dear friend Sam Golding, performances in Coffs and Yass with one of the best country afternoon teas we have ever experienced plus road trip coffee and backstage knitting lessons from Wilma.

It’s no secret that composers often use the string quartet as their medium of choice when exploring their innermost thoughts and those very big questions like “who am I?”

Our third subs program centred around the theme of identity with Deborah Cheetham Fraillon’s “Bungaree” to honour and shine a light on this incredibly important man whose story deserves to be more widely known. He did far more than just help Matthew Flinders circumnavigate the continent that was to become Australia, he was a leader, diplomat and inspiration to many. We have toured “Bungaree” widely this year and audiences have loved it.

Bryony Marks’ Australia Fair? (Question mark intended) explores some of the vast collection of the national film and sound archive with painfully white footage embracing irony, wit and humour. Australia mid 20th century is very different to Australia today.
Bryony’s vision was epic and it was a thrill to pull this off.

We performed this without a click and somehow managed to finish right on time. (You can see the surprise on Bryony and Zoe’s face!)

We have loved performing Dvorak’s last string quartet this year with the nostalgia and joy of his homeland shining through. After helping America explore its unique voice, he relished his Bohemian homeland.

It’s always sad saying goodbye to a program but this one was special. Thanks to everyone who heard this and if you missed it, look for it soon on FQ Digital.
