Just back from Junto 23 with 20 incredible men in the Hill Country outside of Austin.

More than anything, this retreat was about embracing integrity as a practice, not some vague ideal.

Integrity as the practice of noticing our assumptions about other people and how they’ll respond to us sharing our hard, vulnerable truth, and choosing to share it intentionally anyway.

Integrity was identifying the cognitive dissonance between what we truly want and the things we tolerate or complain about in our lives, then choosing ownership over complaint.

It was noticing the places where we blame other people for us falling short or feeling anything other than how we want to feel, and instead focusing on what we need and what agreements we can create to build the relationships we actually want.

Integrity was coming out of the mind and into the body to feel the hard thing we haven’t been fully acknowledging.

In the Junto, Integrity is as much a verb as it is an adjective.

Of the 20 men at the retreat, 14 signed up for the reintegration men’s group. That matters deeply to me because at Junto we care far more about behavior change than state change.

I care much less about how you feel on day 3 than how you feel on day 30.

We intentionally build these containers to foster sustainable growth and transformation, not temporary highs and cathartic emotional release.

It’s an honor to bring men together for this kind of brotherhood, transformation, and impact in their communities.

We talk to Rob Schuham, a friend and author, about how he gave up 90% of his net worth to his ex-wife in his divorce more than 20 years ago. He walks us through the arc of his relationship, explaining how he ignored tensions early on while convincing himself that living together, getting engaged, and then getting married would somehow resolve deeper incompatibilities. After this emotional and financial journey, Rob spent decades firmly against ever getting married again but, now, he is warming up to it provided the relationship is grounded in love, reality, and a prenuptial agreement. At the end of the episode, Maxson and Emily talk about if we want a prenup, and if we are in love with the real, current versions of ourselves - or a projection of who we hope the other person will evolve into.

Episode 11 of the Podcast @shouldwegetmarried

Emily & Maxson love one another and are fully committed to a lifelong partnership… they just don’t know if they want to get legally married. So they created a podcast to investigate marriage and determine if it’s the right fit for them. I offered to preform a commitment ceremony for them so that they could discover how getting married might feel.

Episode 13 is out! We talk to Rabbi Ben Spratt, Emily’s childhood rabbi, about marriage from a spiritual lens and if and how that appeals to us. We learned his view that friction in a marriage isn’t bad - it’s the very stimulus that causes us to grow into the people we are meant to be. We also learn about some Epic Jewish Stuff like Onah, the ancient stipulation that a man has an obligation to sexually pleasure his wife, and the weekly frequency is determined by his job. "Straight up, no." That's Archie's answer when we asked him if parents should stay together for the sake of the kids. He was four when his parents divorced, and we interviewed his mom Isabel about it back in Episode 4.⁣

His take: no good marriage ever ends in divorce. If people need to separate, they should, and how you do it matters way more than if you do it. He thinks his parents did it great.⁣

I know yall know how much I love @madeleinevoge and @paulvoge. Eight years ago they found me on a little trail in Colorado and became my soulmates forever. I can’t believe we get to grow up together.
