As we get ready to announce our 2027 artists in residence, we’re taking a look back at the incredible range of practices that shaped Fountainhead in 2026. From sculptures crafted from reclaimed materials to intricately cut paper works, this year’s residents brought together diverse perspectives, places, materials, and ways of making. We’re proud to have supported artists pushing boundaries, experimenting with new ideas, and sharing their unique perspectives with our community. Did you discover a new favorite artist at Fountainhead this year? Tell us who in the comments. ❤️

It had been nearly seven years since my last summer workshop at Haystack. At this point, the campus is thick with memories, and I kept running into past versions of myself. Being the third return, I kept jumping from 2026 back to 2017 and 2019. One morning during the second week of Session One, I got up before dawn and watched the sunrise from the flag deck. If anyone else was awake then, I didn’t see them. Though I’m not much of a morning person, I do love the ocean. (Sorry to everyone I disturbed in Dorm B while climbing up/down the ladder to the loft; lots of late nights but fewer early mornings.) GLASS. The first time I came to Haystack, I had recently gone back to college and fallen in love with glass. I was working grounds for the former work-study program, so I was perpetually dirty and tired. I never got to swim, but I did give myself trench foot by dipping my feet in the water and stuffing them into my shitkickers to run back to the hot shop. That session, I took about 700 photos. PAPER. The second time, I had just finished my degree and felt full of possibilities. I had a busy year mapped ahead, which would feel more paperlike and strange after March 2020. We went to the wrong secret beach. I took 416 photos. STAINED GLASS & ENAMELS. This year, I took 171 photos. I didn’t bring my swimsuit; I thought it would be too cold to swim in June. I was wrong, it wasn’t that bad. To the boundlessly talented @lauraamochales, assisted by the incredible @annii_the_myth: thank you for the care and intention you brought to teaching our class. No delusions: you’re just that gifted. I’ve missed my calluses—blue band-aids will never look the same. To @dettmanndesigns @christophernhofmann @evanpaulenglish @_kellyli @leslie.lasiter @maya_zohbi @signal_and_shape @rosemaal @tstunisi: I am stunned by how much trust and love we built over 14 days. You’re incredible artists and people; it’s an honor to be in the metals cult with you. More days and laughter ahead. To so many others at S1: it was such a pleasure to be in community with you. To everyone at @haystack_school who makes this space such a gift to return to: thank you for all your hard work!

⚠️NOT YOUR SUBMISSIVE BOTTOM⚠️ This gorgeous piece by Antonius-Tín Bui is now on view at @participantafterdark and @salma__nyc through August 30th. You can bid on this work at the @queerart x @doll.invasion Auction via our link in bio, and be sure to do so before the auction closes on September 3rd!⁣ ⁣ Bui is a polydisciplinary artist and shapeshifter invested in the transformative potential of improvisation, portraiture, craft, and ritual. Their work honors the spectral, the tender, and the unruly—crafting portals for what cannot be named, only felt, only danced with ancestral shadow.⁣ ⁣ 📸 “Not Your Submissive Bottom” (2019) by @buimonster.⁣ Hand and laser cut color paper. 22.5” x 15”⁣ Photo by @rk_co_image

Antonius-Tín Bui is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans hand-cut paper, performance, textiles, and community engagement. Their work explores identity, memory, queerness, and Vietnamese diasporic histories, often drawing on their experience as the child of Vietnamese refugees. Bui’s intricate cut-paper works combine traditional papercutting techniques with contemporary portraiture, using a meditative process of subtraction to reveal stories and histories that have been overlooked or marginalized. Through beauty, craft, and ritual, their work creates space for complex narratives of belonging, inheritance, and community. Bui’s residency is generously sponsored by @hestyleibtag and Terry Verk 💫 Meet Antonius-Tin and see their work in person at our Open House happening this Thursday, August 27th from 7:00-8:30pm with a members-only hour beginning at 6:00pm. Enjoy drinks from @estrelladamm, @lalospirits and @theelcarajo. RSVP to join us at the link in bio! 📸: @allseeingmedia

The only rule: they can only use their own memories. So each of them described God using their lived experiences. Trans people have always been close to God, often acting as a bridge between the material and the unseen. In my own culture, trans people become channels for deities in order to impart wisdom to the townspeople. These days, it seems modern society is confused about us because they’re afraid. But no matter our gender, we’ve all experienced God by running through the sprinklers-or biking haphazardly through the neighborhood, or lying on the beach with our eyes closed. My definition of God lately: looking out at the mountains of Vietnam, knowing that the same force that made this towering beauty also made me and loves me without conditions. #god #spirit
