What if caregiving were treated as an investment?

Epicenter NYC hosted The Care Dividend, where childcare researchers, employers, health leaders and advocates explored what would be possible if society shared the work of care instead of leaving it to families alone.

The answer from experts: It takes a village, and the village needs support, too.

Children growing up along the U.S.-Mexico border face significantly fewer neighborhood resources than children elsewhere in the country, according to a new report from @bostonu researchers.

Using the Child Opportunity Index 3.0, researchers at the @busocialwork's Institute for Equity in Child Opportunity & Healthy Development (IECOHD) found that border communities have substantially lower access to opportunities that support children's health and development. The report also found that Hispanic children experience especially large disparities in neighborhood opportunity.

So I’m listening to that little girl and also the encouragement and guidance from my friends and family. ❤️

Earlier this year, I decided to just go for it to pursue grad school and apply for my MSW.

I got rejected from Columbia literally two weeks after submitting my application. Truthfully, my heart was set on Columbia. I toured the campus, connected with people there, and genuinely thought, “this is it.” Especially with their acceptance rate being 70%+, I really believed I would get in.

And honestly, when Columbia rejected me, I convinced myself the other schools probably would too.

I was wrong.

Over the last two weeks, one week apart, I was accepted into:
- NYU Silver School of Social Work - ONRAMP
- Boston University School of Social Work

Turns out the right fit mattered more than the dream I had in my head.

Because at the end of the day, the program that actually fits my life, learning style, and goals best is Boston University. One course at a time for 7 weeks and only two classes a semester. The structure honestly feels made for me.

I truly did not expect Boston University to accept me, which is why this still feels surreal.

But as of last night, I officially submitted my admission offer and will be attending Boston University School of Social Work - @busocialwork . ❤️

So here we are. Baby Jacks, we did it. This is just the beginning.
