We melted the past into something that belongs to the future. Gold that once circled a long-lived love now rests on Franke’s hand, steady and bright. And the sapphire ,natural, peacock green, unheated, honest , it reminds me of the way you two look at one another.

'Men doopte ons MATADOR
Uitdagers van de dood
Wij stellen glorieus strijdtoneel tentoon'

I Miss You.

Last year, after being in the humble corn-cob land of Wisconsin, USA, my travels shifted to the “armpit of California”. Kayla was the second person I met when I arrived in Lake Elsinore, and she very soon became a dear friend of mine.

I painted this self-portrait one afternoon on a cloudy day at Kayla’s apartment. I haven’t made anything in months, and probably painted this as a subconscious self-reflection moment, whilst getting to know this wonderful Kayla next to me.

Kayla, you came at a very much needed time in my life. And even though my time in the US was so much fun and a much needed kick in the butt, I am happy to say that this piece stayed behind with you, and you only. Thank you for being such a wonderful being. I miss your gypsy wacky presence.

This small piece is currently sitting on a windowsill at Kayla’s home in California.
