What started as a conversation with @fallonfarinacci over 4 years ago, grew into something better than I could have imagined. Now, @jennaharveyco and I are exploring where to take it next. Endlessly grateful for the support of this community. Thankful to also have had both of these powerhouses as storytellers.

And if you’re admiring the decor behind us, all credit goes to @kwfamous whose beautiful space made for the perfect vibe for this event.

[Image description: Picture of Fallon, Patra, and Jenna all standing and smiling. Fallon is wearing a brown and white checkered dress, Patra is wearing a pink and orange floral dress, Jenna is wearing a light green top with dark bottoms.]

The craftiest, coolest and best photographer was in the house. @justynasokolowski makes magic through her lens and the most fun journal I think I’ve ever seen. So grateful to have her capture some of the moments and people at Open Book.

[Image description: A collage of things that say “Two Feet Apart” and “KWFamous” along with book and community themed stickers].

The one and only (and most supportive friend) @neighbourbecci. She doesn’t love praise, so I won’t say more. But, you should give her a follow if you haven’t already.

[Image description: Patra and Becci standing and smiling but looking at a camera to the left. Patra is in the aforementioned outfit and Becci is in an open denim jacket/top with a black top under it.]

@ruchika_khati did her thing!!! I wanted something more than a swag bag for this style of event so she swooped in with incredible watercolour portraits for attendees to take home.

[Image description: A watercolour portrait of two people in the midst of being painted].

One of the amazing storytellers @muntu_o with the best snack sponsor @snackhumble. We had guests enjoying the Humble chips throughout all of the different components of the event.

[Image description: Brian sitting and looking down at an open bag of Humble chips. He’s in a white t-shirt.]

I wanted guests to experience the chapters of Open Book in a small group setting so that curiosity could be explored and assumptions could be challenged. Here is another impactful storyteller, @nbisiing

AUGUST faves, saves & gold stars

We said ‘good bye’ to my sister and her little fam, and welcomed my brother back home- they overlapped for a few days, and it was so special to be all together again, after a few years

We single handedly kept watermelon farmers in business

I got little Lenny all to myself for a few perfect hours- a lunch date, reading in the floor of my happy place, and wittle facials in Sephora

We sat with stingrays!! (And were reminded why we never drive into Toronto..)

I was treated to a whole day on a beautiful beach with a beautiful friend- I super needed it, and I’m so grateful

We finished the soccer season, way on top!

I had dental work done without an Ativan! I haven’t consciously worked through panic, drug-free, in a long time

We had some excellent family dinners

Another month without being skunked! Bless!

7 things for 7th grade!

I didn’t let myself become completelyyyy consumed by the anxiety I’m feeling over my kid getting back to school after 2.5 years at home..

JULY faves and saves, gold stars and highlights

☀️ We turned 12, and had such a lovely little Bday weekend as a family

☀️We managed to see a few friends! But also spent more than a few minutes working through some big feelings of rejection (maybe moreso me than my kid lol)

☀️ I learned that soccer is for sure my fave sport to watch.. but only if my kid (or a kid I know) is playing..

☀️ We survived another wildfire apocalypse

☀️Kayaking w Papa and mall-ratting with Lenny!

☀️I knocked some big ticket items off my to-do list, that had been waiting to be done for .. some time

☀️ Saw Odyssey with my dad, and was wildly intrigued by Greek mythology for the first time ever. We also saw Minions and Monsters, which was only slightly less epic and inspiring..

☀️ Another month we didn’t get sprayed by a skunk! Knock on wood! Though we see them most nights, and I am physically ON EDGE every time our bedtime walk is after the sun has fully set.

☀️ I only cried once over the thought of my kid starting school again. August will be a month that we are veryyyy gentle with ourselves, while finishing up the few things we said we’d practice (academically) over the Summer, and while properly mentally preparing.

T’was a lovely little May

🌸 We finished Spring training, and started the summer soccer season

🌸 We finally finished the novel Holes

🌸 We also watched the movie Holes, and Boden made it very clear he does not care for a movie when he already knows exactly what happens (I on the other hand, LOVE a movie adaptation)

🌸 I carved 5 not seedless seedless watermelons

🌸 I have been shadow banned plenty of times, but this was my first time being in DM jail

🌸 I dealt with the few too-hot days relatively well (and by relatively well I mean I didn’t punch anyone or cry in public)

🌸 I read some GOOD books. Less, but really good ones

🌸 We registered for Grade 7

April faves and saves and stars!

⭐️ we found all of the Easter eggs

⭐️ we survived another sinus infection

⭐️ hosted all our cousin’s kids for more eggs

⭐️ I read less because I was trying really hard to sleep more. But also, the books seemed to suck.

⭐️ kept my cool during the Sephora sale

⭐️ we welcomed Papa home!

⭐️ we appreciated all of the little things trying to grow, despite the ridiculous weather

⭐️ got the best haircut ever

March ⭐️s

Mother Nature is the most unhinged and mentally unstable in March, and we survived it

We also survived a forever-cough, and a sinus infection

Boden mastered swallowing pills (instead of the ‘baby’ drinkable antibiotics)

We started to tackle the grade 6 EQAO testing (even though he’s not in school to take it, it’ll be a good way for us to gauge where he’s at compared to where the government expects kids to be, and see what we need to)

We finished the Winter soccer season, undefeated

We celebrated daddy’s Bday w cookies instead of cake

I read a lot, again (because my sleep is still a pile of shit) One of the best books I’ve read in a long time.. and a few I finished ONLY because I can’t seem to convince my brain that it’s ok to not finish a book once I’ve started it

I joined a gym, and attended 2-3 (work out) classes a week- except for the week my hormones made my boobs hurt too much

We got to sleep with all the windows open one night!!

I started HRT

JANUARY GOLD STARS

⭐️ I did a pretty okay job avoiding the comment sections.

⭐️ I ate 2 gingerbread houses.

⭐️ I didn’t punch any of my healthcare providers, despite the disappointing care provided.

⭐️ I finished SEVEN books! (I’m really showing that Kindle Unlimited trial who’s boss) The reason I read so much is because my ability to sleep has been shit, again, since surgery, but reading is still far more gold star worthy than doom scrolling in the middle of the night.

⭐️ I expressed my dog’s anal glands once! That gold star saved us a $50 Vet bill. I snuggle-slept with him 31 times.

⭐️ I taught my kid long division. I mean, we’re still practicing, especially with bigger numbers, but we’re getting the hang of it! And I only told him, ‘math is so stupid and you’ll grow up with a calculator always in your pocket, if not microchipped into your forehead at some point’ once, maybe twice.

⭐️ I lost zero socks to my dog! (He did fuck up a slipper, though)

⭐️ I appreciated little things (like naturally Winter- rosy cheeks, napping my Nephew, Saturday soccer league, small business sales, Christmas chocolate on sale, that one warm day, The Pitt starting again..)

⭐️ I hibernated to the best of my ability- forgoing the ‘need’ for intermittent fasting, and getting into bed as early as possible. I spent a lot of time under my blankies with my heating pad and snacks.

⭐️ I survived! January 2026 was like, 3 months long. It’s okay to be glad it’s over with.
