The very LAST DAY of @pier24photography museum. So many emotions. This space has been very special to me - mostly because of the people that run it who I love. @haus_of_allie @thechrismccall @rydotcom and the support staff - but also because of the amazing work they did to share photography with the Bay Area, free of charge, for 15 years, through lavishly staged exhibitions from both up and coming and legendary photographers. I’m honored to be part of the extraordinary list of artists who have shown there. I’m very sad to see it go.

Hats off to @ali_gass, the @icasanfrancisco director extraordinaire! She and the ICA SF team have made downtown San Francisco an infinitely better place with the opening of the spectacular new ICA SF in The Cube, a historic building at 345 Montgomery Street. The launch last night with the fall exhibitions: “The Poetics of Dimensions” by superstar curator @larryosseimensah; “Maryam Yousif: Riverbend;” and “Spotlight: Kathleen Ryan” was AMAZING! Run, don’t walk, to this new Mecca to the arts.

And a special fashion shoutout to @pamelahornik in a fabulous outfit designed by her uber-talented son @noahhornik! Hopefully there is a trunk show coming to SF in the near future!

Slide 1: in front of my favorite artist @hugomccloud’s work “retirement,” 2020. In “retirement,“ Hugo transforms discarded single-use plastic into a medium of expression. His work is just spectacular!

Slide 4: in front of a spectacular work by @nengiomuku, “The Lighthouse,” 2021. Nengi’s impressionistic landscapes make new use of sanyan, a hand-woven silk fabric that has shaped the cultural history of the artist’s native Nigeria.

What a poignant experience having my jean jacket mended yesterday by Nancy—a longtime SF resident and FAMSF docent—as part of Lee Mingwei’s exhibition “Rituals of Care” @deyoungmuseum In “The Mending Project” (2009–present), Lee uses the simple act of sewing as a means to connect and share an experience. Visitors bring damaged items to be mended by the artist or a host, celebrating the act of repair and fostering human connections. A much needed reminder to slow down and actively participate in your community and beyond.

The day after the Wires opening in Long Beach I trucked up to San Francisco to install another room of Wires Crossed photographs at @pier24photography which will be part of their last ever exhibition. After this year the best photo museum in the world will dissolve into only a pleasant memory, leaving a track record of immaculate and lavishly staged shows in its wake. The room I have prepared is insignificant in relation to the heavy line up of photographers and their work that will be gracing the walls. No Spoilers! But the show is a face-melter. (Me excluded) - It was a lovely week getting to hang with @haus_of_allie @thechrismccall @rydotcom @morganguerra @mikifoto913 & @bychance621 - show will open early April and be up all year!!! it’s a chance for Bay Area people who couldn’t make it down to Long Beach to see the Wires Crossed show in its concentrated single room form - and for photography fans all over the world, now is a great time to plan your travels to San Francisco to see this amazing museum before it’s gone!

Thank you everyone who came out last night and today. We are such an awesome community. I loved working with the amazing people @500cappstreet Cait, Justin, Ava, Nina, Lola, the artists guides, and especially Lian who invited me to do the show. My talks with Lian opened me up. I am forever changed. Thank you Lian! This show turned out better than I thought it would be. (Sometimes I am in my own way) I feel so lucky to have invited 3 artists that I have had long conversations with at SF State-Nicole, AJ, and Maryam to show work in the house with me. Follow these amazing artists @nicolekshaffer @ajserrano.art @sanaz_safanassab you will see more of these artists cause they are making great work. Here’s to showing up and speaking your truth and embracing each other.
