Mal Flowers planned senior year around being the new editor-in-chief of their school’s lit mag, but The Plan fell through when budget cuts nicked the lit mag. Struggling to find a New Plan, Emerson Pike suggested the lit mag staff go rogue and create a very unofficial, school unapproved, lo-fi zine. Will Mal’s need for scheduled, official, school-sanctioned plans derail their opportunity to truly step onto a path with Emerson and into their life, out from under their super-star sister’s shadow? Christen Randall’s According To Plan is a fun and funny ya novel with emotional twists and turns, a dash of spice, and complex characters that truly embody the neurodivergent youth experience! Joyfully inspiring.

For breakfast, I swear I didn’t eat paper. But I have been making zines for a long while now, and Randall’s novel inspired me to share a few of them with my morning cup, which I take with a little cream and a spoonful of honey.

How lucky are we to live in the same timeline as Aiden Thomas and Cemetery Boys? (Spoiler alert: the luckiest)

Happy one month of Cemetery Boys: Espíritu! I still can’t even believe Aiden was kind enough to gift us a sequel to one of the best books of all time, and what an incredible sequel it is. In Cemetery Boys, Yadriel and Julian fell in love and fought a death god. Now they’re dealing with the aftermath. Every bit as exciting, spooky, and heartfelt as its predecessor, Espíritu sees the boys taking on another dangerous mystery, healing from trauma, and growing into a soft love that made me weep.

This was everything I could have hoped for in a sequel and very well worth the wait! I adored getting to be inside Julian’s head for a change and to see firsthand how fiercely protective he is of his loved ones. It was a joy to get to know the chaos crew better and spend more time exploring Julian’s relationship with his brother Rio. And, watching Yads and Julian become being each other’s safe spaces to lean on no matter what made my chest ache in the best way.

Last month, I was extra lucky and got to see Aiden on tour and tell them first hand how much this book/ characters mean to me. I don’t think I stopped smiling once throughout the whole event. Aiden is just such a light in the queer book community and hearing him talk about how Cemetery Boys as a duology came together gave me the utmost joy.

Thank you to @bycrandall for being the loveliest in conversation partner, @anovelromancebookstore for hosting such a fun event, and of course, @aidenschmaiden for being the best in all the ways.
