@byron_wallen in London Town at the Jazz Cafe and from his Sound Advice album around 1993. He’s now the subject of a fantastic documentary on Amazon Prime called Indigo Revelations In Small Steps directed by Tom Parsons. Very inspiring to see Byron’s path and process. We had the great pleasure of hanging with this cat back in the day! (Pretty sure that’s Linda in the background).

Sending you a little sunshine from Freetown, my hometown. ☀️🌊

Louis Armstrong came here in 1961. The year I was born. Standing here that connection feels especially close as I prepare to celebrate his music.

Can’t wait to share that stage with Alex Wilson and Shireen Francis for I LOVE LOUIS on Friday 9 October at PizzaExpress Live, Soho. Expect music, stories and plenty of Louis’s joy!

Tickets for London and my Nottinghamshire shows, 11–14 October, are on the events page of my website. Link in bio.

Scrolling back through more messages, I found this wonderful footage of Harry (Brown) and his Octet from a show in 2019 at Brighton College.
It was a gig with a talk as well. Harry had put me on the guestlist. You can hear me ‘woop’ after his solo and a lovely smile follows.
I believe this footage was taken by @samdorrellmusic (thank you). I’ve tried to tag as many of the musicians involved. I hope you all don’t mind me sharing this.

Our very first release - Clapton Hymns Vol. 1: 10 Years of Church of Sound (2016-2026). Together with you, we have spent the last decade building Church of Sound from the heart, welcoming audiences & artists of all sorts. We have tried our best to reflect the spirit of CoS in this compilation, in its many aspects. The jewel in the crown of this compilation is undoubtedly its tracklist (swipe to take a look) which in our opinion is wonderfully emblematic of all the work we have undertaken at St James over the years.

The album consists of a special range of performers & performances, selected to reflect the variety and character of the music we are so lucky to play our small part in. There is something magical about truly live recordings as documents of moments in time. Each is rich with possibility, coincidence and surprise. They capture something of the mystical live music continuum that holds both fragility & adrenaline-rush bombast in equal importance.

It's available on double gatefold vinyl, which includes a 16 page zine featuring an oral history of Church of Sound, the classic recipe from Made Up Kitchen, photos, handwritten notes and more; double gatefold CD; and digitally.

Church of Sound would not exist without the team that brings it to life with every show, and nourishes its continued growth outside of that. On a logistical and a spiritual level, teamwork is critically important to Church of Sound. There are countless characters in our constellation, all of whom play an important role, and they each deserve boundless credit and thanks for all they have given.

Thank you for your continued contribution to this thing we call Church of Sound. Onwards!!
