FIVE YEARS ago today I opened my first atelier and boutique 😭 Vintage hats, no team, no retail experience, no design experience - just a love for hats, an incredible support system and a pink trash can. Too many memories and emotions to sum up in one post while I drink a glass of champagne on our way back to CA from Texas, a place that has welcomed us like family this past year. I’m full of tears sitting here across from Ty, just so full of joy. For all of this. I am immensely and forever so so grateful. For everyday. I love y’all. Thank you for making this life the most fun. Sound on for how I’m feeling xx

If you want to start something or take a leap and you need a sign - this is your sign.  Don’t wait. We have more control over our happiness and our lives than we realize. This year, our company @scoutlabco turned five years old. When we started in 2017 we didn’t have investors, family money, or even excessive savings. We had just enough expertise and conviction to have a vision and just the right amount of delusion to have courage. The path there will never be 100% certain. At some point you have to bet on yourself and just go. After deciding to start our company, @kaitlynbarclay and I showed up at a coffee shop the next morning at 8am to work, and haven’t stopped since. Largely due to the sense of accountability and trust created within our partnership. Together we discovered that you don’t need to have everything figured out but you must have a growth mindset, resilience and a sense of humor doesn’t hurt either.  5 years later - we’ve built and expanded purpose-driven brands all over the world and have grown our business 20% year over year and have built the kind of team you could enjoy being stuck in an airport with. I recommend chasing your dreams- whatever they are 11 out of 10 every time. 📸 @gabrielagabrielaa

This month we threw Scout Lab a proper birthday party at Nightmoves. 🥳 Happy 5 years to my favorite job that keeps me inspired, endlessly curious, constantly learning, and on my toes every year in new and exciting ways. To be able to co-create with @bywillowhill is a divine privilege, and to have the good fortune to work alongside every member of the Scout Lab team is, and will always be, a highlight of my life. One thing I’ve learned is that celebrating is important, the small stuff and big stuff, because that’s what it’s all about. We do the work so we can leave the world a better place, and enjoy the ride along the way. Founder lyfe = Glamorous. Jk its not. I've struggled and been anxious about how to share my experiences as this is my first time being a founder. Even though I've worked at the White House, pinnacle of beauty industry, make up artist at MAC, traveled around the world... launching a brand and the path towards success is by far the hardest thing I've ever done in my life (especially after hearing 40m "no's". I'm thankful to my co-founder, team, parents, brother, husband, friends, investors, advisors, stakeholders, founder-friends, therapist, executive coach, acupuncturist, holistic bodyworker, medication, sleep doctor, dogs, and neighbors for being the community that helps me take care of myself. We are in a deepening mental health crisis and I spoke to our expert @unapologetikallyj the other day about burn out and she said that we are beyond proactive let alone reactive. We are not resourced for this kind of stress for this prolonged period of time and the consequences will be big. I'm scared. Since can't be proactive at this point -- we have to practice unlearning. Unlearning also is resting, the ability to do nothing and not feel guilty about it. Black and brown communities don't want to look lazy because if we are caught not working, we are in trouble (looking at you - slavery, indentured servitude, etc). There is guilt associated with being still. So this is why I'm working so hard making @beselfmade.co, and yet this is my reminder to take 5 minutes to be still. Cheers to each of you navigating what rest and stillness look like for you. Also, raise the roof to @daisypyo who has been trying to get me to have fun on tiktok as a founder for 2 years. I want to make you proud.
