Canada, here we come! 🇨🇦✨ Feeling incredibly excited (and a little surreal!) to be heading to Toronto this week for @caribbeantales Film Festival. 🎬❤️ What started as an idea, a story we felt needed to be told, and countless hours of work has now brought us to another film festival — this time in Toronto! 🇨🇦 I’ll be joined by two of my castmates (@thesandylion & Sarah Hamel-Smith ) for a Q&A following the screening, and I am looking forward to sharing this experience with them, and with everyone who comes out to watch. Our documentary screens Thursday, September 10th at 9:00 PM. 🎥✨ If you’re in Toronto, come watch with us! 🎟️ Tickets are available through the link in my bio. See you in Toronto on Thursday 🥰🤗

A year ago, these were just pages. Scenes. Characters. A story waiting to become something more. Today, I look at these pages differently. Because over the last year, LOVERBOY has taken me on a journey I never could have imagined. And I’m learning that making a film doesn’t begin when the cameras roll. It begins long before that. The conversations. The meetings. The rewrites. The packaging. The problem-solving. The long days and even longer nights. The process of taking something that exists on paper and building everything around it to give it a chance to live on screen. These pages are a glimpse into that world. A boy on a jetty in Tobago. Four friends looking out at the open water. A childhood that will shape everything that comes after. And years later, that same water is still there. Waiting. There’s a line in the script that stays with me: “The distance between those two points is enormous. And somehow he’s walked it.” I think about that when I look at where we started and where we are today. Because the distance between an idea and a feature film is enormous. And for the last year, I’ve been walking it. Packaging it. Building it. Preparing it. Believing in it. Now, we’re looking toward early 2027. Tobago. The water. The music. The story. And hopefully, soon… the cameras. For now, these are still pages. But when I look at them, I can already see the movie. LOVERBOY Tobago • Early 2027 The story is getting closer.

Caribbean literature emerges from an oral heritage. 👂 Long before our stories were written down, they were spoken. They were told on verandahs and front steps, in kitchens and rum shops, at wakes and family gatherings. They travelled by voice. 🗣 This oral inheritance still shapes the way Caribbean writers write today. We write for the eye, yes—but also for the ear. Rhythm matters. Cadence matters. Voice matters. Perhaps that's one reason why audiobooks feel like such a natural home for Caribbean stories. I'm especially happy that this Caribbean-American Heritage month, for the first year ever, you can celebrate by listening to my book, Pleasantview. Produced entirely in the Caribbean, the audiobook features six authentic Caribbean voices, including my own. But whether you choose my book or someone else's, I hope you'll pick up a Caribbean title this month. Read one. Listen to one. Share one. Don't forget: June is #ReadCaribbean month. As we say in Trinidad, "Come een!"
