the first sound we hear in the womb is the rhythmic heartbeat of our mother. across many African and Indigenous traditions, the drum is understood as an echo of that original rhythm…the first sound that held us 🪘

i remember being a little girl who was often danced at the center of family parties. i remember how quickly my body would rise from the seat or the sprints to the living room from the bedroom to participate in dancing to Los Olivos by Enerolisa Nuñez y El Grupo. may she fly high in love and power 🐚🕊️

as my abuela says, “recordar es vivir” I give thanks for your wisdom and the depthful conversations we always have 🙏🏽

we give thanks for @c4amd_ for curating a wonderful drums class for la comunidad. I enjoyed watching the joy, the passion, and the curiosity of the everyone present, especially the children ✨

@osaliki thank you for guiding us through and sharing your wisdom with us; learning the history of the “patrones” inspired me to learn more, gracias!

@channel_lotus thank you for bringing some drums so we can all participate 🙏🏽 thank you for guiding us through the second “patron.”

@trurogue thank you for always answering the call 🐚 it was a pleasure seeing you and a joy watching you play the drums con sonrisa y laughs 🌀 and for bringing your sistar friend along too ❤️
