Chronic back pain: what actually works — and what doesn't. 📖

In December 2023, the World Health Organization released its first-ever clinical guideline on chronic primary low back pain — the leading cause of disability worldwide.

At Active Health, our multidisciplinary team is specialised in treating chronic low back pain following all the scientific recommendations.

Chronic pain is multifactorial.
It involves biological, neurological and psychological components.
It results from complex neurobiological and biomechanical mechanisms — not simply from ongoing tissue damage.
That is why effective treatment must go beyond isolated techniques.
At Active Health Clinic, we apply a multidisciplinary strategy:
• Comprehensive clinical assessment
• Pain neuroscience education
• Individualized manual therapy
• Psychological support when appropriate
• Progressive rehabilitation & exercises
Because long-term improvement requires commitment, active participation, and meaningful behavioral change — not passive care alone.

Dry Needling + Exercises vs Manual Therapy + Exercises
Mechanical Neck Pain — What Does the Evidence Show?
A 2024 randomized controlled trial published in JOSPT compared:
🔹 Dry Needling + Exercises
🔹 Manual Therapy + Exercises

📊 The results?
The manual therapy + exercises group showed:
✔️ Greater pain reduction
✔️ Better functional improvement
✔️ More durable outcomes
✔️ Superior short- and medium-term results
This is clinically important.
When a non-invasive approach demonstrates better outcomes, it raises an important question:
👉 Is it necessary to use a more invasive technique when a safer, non-invasive strategy performs better?
For mechanical neck pain, the evidence supports a multimodal approach:
🖐 Hands-on treatment
🏃 Targeted exercises
🧠 Movement-based rehabilitation
Treatment decisions should be guided by evidence — not trends.

I truly cannot recommend these 2 awesome young professionals enough!! While Cyril @cyril_hatem trains me to regain my lost muscle mass and lose my stubborn belly fat and extra 7 kgs of weight - due to menopause 🙄 and lockdowns, Charbel @c_therapy.lb treats my chronic painful soft tissue inflammation that invaded my whole body years ago as a result of my 5 spine surgeries (2 cervical spine surgeries with plates and screws and 3 lumbar spine surgeries with rods, screws and an artificial disc) and my arthritic joints, thus ensuring I can safely continue training with Cyril, and the results after almost 3 months are amazing and I feel younger than 30 although I’m only 6 months away from 60 yo 😱😍😍 All of this in the comfort of my own home! I truly cannot thank you you guys enough 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️ plus they remind me of my beloved sons as they’re very close in age and have similar interests 🥰🥰
