The Pilgrim’s Table is a collaboration between @studio_adra , founded by designers Alice Lund and Jonny Seller, and my creative practice @cabin____studio.

Inspired by blacksmith Paul Zimmerman’s grave markers and cemetery gates, the table is forged by Thomas Gontar at the ancient Glynde Forge in Sussex. Its surface is formed from handmade terracotta tiles by Aldershaw Tiles, using clay
quarried from their own land. Bringing together iron, earth, craft and drawing, the table becomes both a functional object and a landscape for my hand-painted, fourteen-part meditation on the artist’s pilgrimage.

To accompany the work, @jonnyseller has compiled a fourteen-song playlist, cut to vinyl, creating a musical journey
that mirrors the table’s fourteen stations.

I — THE CALLING
II — THE TOOLS
III — THE FAILURE
IV — THE ORIGIN
V — THE COLLABORATOR
VI — THE IMAGE
VII — THE DOUBT
VIII — THE GATHERING
IX — THE SURRENDER
X — THE ESSENTIAL
XI — THE COMMITMENT
XII — THE SILENCE
XIII — THE RELEASE
XIV — THE RETURN

On the 19th October, The table will make its own journey to @sessionsartsclub from its current location at Frieze London.

Özgür Kar
Death playing the clarinet (from DAWN), 2023
2-channel 4K video with sound, 2 75” TVs, media players, vertical wall mounts, cables
duration: 13:00 min (looped)
332.2 x 187 cm (130 3/4 x 73 5/8 inches)

October 2026 - January 2027

Curator : David Southard

Özgür Kar’s Death playing the clarinet (from DAWN) (2023) forms part of the artist’s ongoing exploration of exhibition-making as theatre. Across two vertically stacked screens, the figure of Death plays a clarinet in a looping performance that draws together animation, sound and the absurdity of the danse macabre. Kar’s works use animated characters as performers, developing fragmented, non-linear narratives around mortality and anxiety in contemporary life.

Pilgrimage - Frieze Vol 3
14-18th October

For 2026, @sessionsartsclub space is titled Pilgrimage, taking its starting point from a series of sunset paintings made by @jonny_gent in 2015 and the book The Way of Wyrd by Brian Bates. Conceived and creatively directed through @cabin____studio - collaborators have been invited to respond to different parts of the sunrise to sunset journey, through its four founding pillars: food, music, art and supplies.
