When I look back on my rapid growth in bookstagram, I could still remember the thrill and smiles it brought me as I see the numbers adding up and growing which resulted to complacency—in the sense that I have never considered the idea that losing more than what I gain is actually possible in this game. What I am learning now is that popularity in socials, nowadays, is easy to attain but to remain relevant is a whole different level and challenge.

I am now up for this challenge—but one thing is for sure, I will always be grateful to this platform and for you guys who have been sticking around. This community will always be a place for me to voice out and be true to myself. Alongside this, it will forever be a wonderful experience for me to genuinely and deeply fall in love with reading as a habit which was tattooed on my being, by and with this community.

The rainy days are upon us! ⛈ There's no better time to read while sipping a cup of coffee. 🤓
I know I've been away for a while but trust me I was just lurking. 🙈

Anyway, what's your take on book tanning?

For me I don't mind my books turning brown. As long as they don't develop molds then I'm fine. I like my books pristine so I really take care not to fold the pages and crack the spine while reading but when it comes to some tanning I don't really care. It's like they develop their own freckles and character as time goes by. 🧡

I’ve been personally drawn to read on stories about wars, may it be fiction or not, since the war between Ukraine and Russia heated up last year.

They say that everyone will have their own war experience at least once in their lifetime, and I am still part of the lucky ones who haven’t had any personal experience with it.. maybe soon, but I still hope not.

Hence, reading about the past experiences being retold in these books is something that I find necessary to be prepared for the worse and to have better understanding of why the world is what it is now.

Truly, I believe on the famous quote from 1984 by George Orwell that “𝙒𝙝𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚: 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙩."

#𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘 | The Philippines Towards Resilient Cities and Communities

Finally, I have been able to finish a book partly because of work necessity but mostly because this is such an easy and light read that is straightforward and honest about the integral plans that Ar. Palafox made himself, with the help of his firm, for Philippines’ preparedness in facing natural calamities. It highlights the idea that these disasters brought by climate change is not just the force of nature but is also greatly affected by man’s own creations and acts of omission. Truly, a solution should be a master plan for the whole and not just a patch work. Moreso, it should be implemented with a strong will—the urban plans have been made that have been referenced from successful initiatives performed in other countries, we just need to execute them.

The author evidently targets the lay population, thus, making it readable with a hint of humor while making sure that it hits harder to the professionals and leaders who are responsible for its actual application.

It’s a short-read which makes it all the more a must read to be informed and be prepared for the impending risks and hazards like the Big One, tsunamis, and harsh typhoons—especially for those who are living closely to coastal areas which we have a lot in the Philippines. As the book have mentioned, we are third in the world with the longest coastal areas; so imagine if we can be smarter in utilizing them to our advantage.

I am so privileged to be given this copy by the author himself, he was just as vibrant and wisdom full in person as he was in his interviews and in writing. This book was published by @anvilpublishing and is currently sold out but hopefully they would reprint soon!🩵

Despite the rain and fog, I managed to visit this #bookshop in the heart of Baguio city!! I love how they are full of filipino literature 🩵 this should be a must visit for book lovers and readers when you’re in the city!
