If you wake up thinking you’re going to have a normal, productive day, just remember you’ve got two geldings.

One’s going to come up with a bad idea, and the other’s going to make damn sure it happens. 😂🐴

Two geldings, one shared brain cell, and absolutely no adult supervision.

I’ve been punching above my weight class since the day I met my wife. 😂

To this day, I’m not entirely sure how I pulled it off. I’m just a bearded, rough-around-the-edges, dirt-covered fella who spends entirely too much time in the woods, comes home smelling like a combination of diesel fuel, horse sweat, and poor decisions.

Meanwhile, she’s beautiful, smart, hardworking, and somehow still chooses to wake up next to me every morning.

I don’t know if she’s got questionable taste in men, poor eyesight, or just a soft spot for strays, but I’m not asking too many questions.

I’ve been punching up for years, and I ain’t about to request a rematch.

Morning mountain views through the ears of @caillann’s mare Mercury!

As a little fun fact, that jacket I’m wearing in this clip is the one I wore when I was riding the Continental Divide Trail back in 2019. I picked it up in a thrift store and I think it might just be one of the best purchases I’ve ever made🔥

It’s been a long two and a bit years, but this weekend I finally got back to my favorite place.

This morning, @caillann , @breeana_williams and I woke up and the ground was white with frost, the water buckets were all frozen and it was a very clear reminder that winter is well on its way.

Full disclosure, despite having done this 4 times and knowing how spectacular it is, the first few miles of this ride I was cold enough that I was starting to question whether or not this was going to be worth it. There was still sections of trail that was shimmering with ice crystals and I have very few pictures or videos from that first third because my fingers would start stinging if I took them out of my pockets for too long.

But thankfully around 5 miles in, the sun started to peek out, the temperature started to rise and I was able to go from 4 layers down to a more comfortable 3.

These views were the reward for getting up early and feeling like a popsicle for a decent chunk of the ride.

Out of all the miles I’ve done in these mountains I’ve never finished a ride and thought that it wasn’t worth it, and I think this ride especially was a reminder that the best things are often on the other side of a little discomfort.

We’re currently en route out to another trailhead, so while I go dark for a bit as we’re in the backcountry I thought it was a little overdue that I share last week’s trail with you all.

I still wrapping my head around the fact that it had been over two years since Thelma and I had been on a Montana trail, and I am so incredibly glad that that drought has now broken.

So enjoy these sights and sounds and I’ll have more between the ears views for you soon!

I know that a lot of our rides are stunning vistas and soothing hoofbeats. But there’s more.

When we’re together we roll from complete tranquility to…well, the opposite. Our rides cycle through periods of non-stop yapping, karaoke and complete silence. We cover all bases.

This may also be one of the reasons we rarely see critters when we’re together 🐻🫎
