Wow what a beautiful show. I never imagined that a spelling bee could leave such a permanent mark on my heart. It’s funny how a show about spelling words could teach me things I’ll never be able to put into words.

Playing Olive Ostrovsky in the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I got to understand Olive and she’s a girl that’s so much like me. She’s a girl who has so much love and kindness to give and wants nothing more than to feel seen, wanted, and loved in return. Olive is kindhearted, compassionate, and so much braver than she knows and while stepping into her shoes I began to discover pieces of myself from Olive along the way. When playing Olive it didn’t feel like I was just telling her story, instead it felt like I was telling everyone my own story. Olive has taught me so much about myself and has showed me that sometimes the people who feel the smallest have the biggest hearts ❤️

And now to Em, I don’t even know where to begin.

I would say thank you for giving me this role but you gave me so much more than just a role. Thank you for believing in me and seeing something in me when so many others discouraged and doubted me.
Anyone who gets the chance to cross paths with you is truly lucky, because knowing you has impacted my life for the better. Thank you for being the person I needed when I didn’t even realize how much I needed someone. You treated me with so much kindness and love and when things were difficult and people were discouraging you stood by my side. And just know I will always stand by your side because I got your back and I know you’ve got mine :)

I will forever be grateful that theater brought you into my life 💛

I spent this show trying to give Olive a voice and somewhere along the way she was helping me find my own. So, good bee Olive Ostrovsky, I wish I could hug you and tell you that you were always enough and that you deserved every bit of love you wished for. But, in learning to tell Olive those things I learned how to tell them to myself too. So, thank you Olive for letting me find myself in your story.
