Inspiring moments and sweet connections at Calgary Foundation Vital 2026! ABC board members were thrilled to attend Calgary Foundation Vital 2026, the largest Vital event yet. From Calgary Foundation President & CEO Eva Friesen introducing the Community Knowledge Centre, an online directory connecting Calgarians to over 800 local charities and non-profits to an unforgettable speech (and taste test!) from @tareqhadhad , CEO and Founder of Peace by Chocolate, we left feeling energized and encouraged to be significant in our community. Thank you to @calgfoundation for an amazing event! 🍫💙 #Vital2026 #CalgaryFoundation #CommunityKnowledgeCentre #PeaceByChocolate #YYC CommunityImpact

Reminder that applications for KOAC’s Artist in Residence program close on November 1. If you’re an artist in the Calgary or Rockyview County area in Alberta, and you’ve been circling a project that needs space to unfold, we are sending you a nudge to apply to our artist in residency program! We offer a ~200 sq ft studio (about the size of a small one-car garage) for artists seeking focused, undistracted time to develop work, especially projects that require space beyond what’s possible at home. Set within a natural landscape, the residency invites a slower rhythm and room to think, make, and experiment. This is a non-live-in, work-in studio residency for artists able to commute from the Calgary + Rocky View area. Learn more + apply via the link in our bio or visit koartscentre.org/artist-in-residence-program/ - Apply by 11:59 PM on November 1 - Video features work by @jaydakarsten and @tonicormier both past artists in residence of 2026! #ArtistResidency #CallForArtists #YYCArts #AlbertaArtists #StudioSpace ContemporaryArt

🌿 We are Calgarians — So are they. From its rivers and wetlands to parks, pathways, and neighbourhood green spaces, Calgary is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife. Coyotes, deer, birds, pollinators, amphibians, reptiles, and many other species share this city with us. As our city grows, we have an opportunity to create communities where both people and wildlife can thrive. The “I’m a Calgarian” campaign celebrates the wildlife that call our city home and shares simple ways we can all help coexist. From keeping pets safe, securing attractants, and protecting natural spaces, to giving wildlife room to move. Follow along each week as we share a perspective from a different species that call Calgary home! Because a city that works for wildlife is a city that works for everyone. 💚 Learn more about living with wildlife: rockies.ca/imacalgarian (link in bio) #imacalgarian #naturesnetwork #wildlifecoexistence

What do youth really need in order to thrive? The remarkable Leanne from the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth had a breakthrough one day that totally changed her perspective on it.  So grateful to have been able to interview Leanne and then share her story as part of my talk with the Calgary Foundation.  “You can’t fix people who aren’t broken”. Her story made everyone in that room (myself included) more human and more able to be impactful.

🍁 A PLAYGROUND BUILT WITH GRATITUDE Part 1: The Partners Who Believed ❤️ This Thanksgiving, we're reflecting on an extraordinary journey. Four years ago, replacing Battalion Park School's aging playgrounds was an ambitious dream. Today, we're watching the finishing touches come together on a beautiful, inclusive playground for our school and community. None of this would have been possible without the organizations and people who believed in our vision. ❤️ BDI PlayDesigns — For four years of partnership, design expertise, guidance and unwavering support in helping turn our vision into reality. ❤️ Signal Hill Community Association — For its incredible $100,000 contribution toward the accessible playground surface, helping create a space where everyone belongs. ❤️ Parks Foundation Calgary & Calgary Foundation — For their generous $50,000 Building Communities Grant and commitment to strengthening communities. ❤️ Government of Alberta — For the significant $125,000 investment through the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP). ❤️ AGLC Casino Volunteers — To everyone who gave their time at our 2023 and 2025 casinos, helping generate $80,000 for this project: your dedication has created a lasting legacy for generations of children. ❤️ KidZinc — For their generous $10,000 contribution toward the paved pathways, making the playground more accessible for children, families and visitors of all abilities. ❤️ New West Video — For generously donating their professional storytelling expertise, helping our community understand the need to replace our aging playgrounds. These partners saw more than a playground. They saw an opportunity to create a place where children of all abilities could play, friendships could grow and families could come together. Because of their generosity, a dream that once existed only on paper is becoming a lasting legacy for our school and community. A legacy built through generosity, collaboration and a shared belief that every child deserves a place to play. From all of us at the Signal Hill School Enhancement Society, thank you for believing. 🍁❤️ #BattalionParkSchool #CommunitySupport #InclusivePlay #Gratitude
