An unlikely friendship 🐾

Reading with Remmy follows Remmy, a Golden Doodle struggling to listen, and Finely, a struggling reader. 📚

A chance encounter leads to a beautiful friendship where Remmy lends a patient, listening ear, and Finely slows down to make sense of the words in her books.

“This book is a blessing-an elegant reminder of how grace is threaded through the day, always available-especially in challenges, annoyances and disappointments. Elise’s lively reflections range from small moments of insight to rich stories of how God shows up “lovely in limbs, lovely in eyes not his.” Her openness to receiving that grace and sharing it, and the ways she calls in the wisdom of spiritual writers and teachers are timely encouragements to live into hard moments with hope and confident prayer and expectation of adventure.” -Marilyn McEntyre, author of Caring for Words in a Culture of Lies

In Praise of Houseflies by @elisetegegne is a beautiful message of hope, joy, and redemption.

What if true courage isn’t believing everything will turn out the way we hope—but trusting God even when we don’t know how the story ends?

From pages 247–248 of my middle grade Christian fantasy, The Keeper of Courage and Light:

“Do you think courage is only needed when you’re fighting a giant? The truest courage of all is to trust Him with your very life and the lives of the people you love because, undoubtedly, He loves them even more than you do.”

Mithra nudges the boy with his hot, scaly nose.

“Have faith, Nathanael, not that everything will be alright because it works out as you wish it to, have faith that He knows how everything should work out because it’s what’s best for you. Even when it comes to life and death. No, especially when it comes to life and death.”

Mithra takes a deep, rumbling breath.

“Have faith that He will always do what’s right. Your courage is found in His goodness. Even now. Even in death.”

This was the message I needed to share. To my kids, to families enduring cancer or illness, to anyone who would listen. Even to myself.

God is never absent. He is never wrong. When the world is flooding, He makes a way.

As Nathanael discovers at the end of my book, God asks only for our obedience and our faith, and, in turn, our love. He takes care of the rest.

If your family is looking for a story about courage, faith, and trusting God in the middle of grief or suffering, The Keeper of Courage and Light was written with you in mind.

Thank you to @katherine.helm @ambermariecruzart @jennaacummings @kelschoosesjoy for lending me your voices!

“He thrust the book into Mr. Claybrook’s hands. “I can’t take it. I-” his voice broke, and he started for the door.
“Laurence, wait.” Mr. Claybrook caught his arm. “Please. I want to help you.”
Run. Now. Accept Mr. Claybrook’s bribery, and you’ll lose all hope of your family’s forgiveness.
His heart was tearing in two.
But go to his family- and turn his back on the truth he had finally found?

Is your life going as you hoped, imagined, and planned, or is there a dream that just isn’t coming to fruition no matter how hard you try?

True Things Last isn’t another book telling you how to make your dreams come true. It’s a compassionate guide for the times they don’t.

@madisonaichele offers gentle encouragement for creatives and visionaries who are sure God has asked them to create but have found the path doesn’t look as they’d hoped.

This book is an honest friend ready to lift your gaze to what matters most.

If you dreamed of Narnia as a child, you’ll want to read about the Land of Nehv with your children.

Nathanael Andrews’s mom is seriously ill, and he desperately wants to rescue her from cancer. One night he falls asleep wishing for the power to save her and wakes up in the breathtaking Land of Nevh.

Determined to find his way back home, Nathanael is taken to the Princess of the Northern Kingdom, who happens to be on a mission of her own—one only Nathanael can help complete.

Within these pages is a story of perseverance, selflessness, and the most important lesson of all: finding hope outside of oneself.

Sometimes the best reading buddy is one who simply listens. 🐶📚

In Reading with Remmy (@callapresspub) by @ginagallagherwrites, Finley loves stories, but reading the words herself is a struggle. Then she meets Remmy, a patient Golden Doodle who is perfectly happy to sit beside her as she practices, mistakes and all.

Day after day, Finley reads and Remmy listens. Little by little, the words become easier and Finley’s confidence begins to grow. 💛

With lively rhymes, warm illustrations, and a gentle reminder that progress takes patience and practice, Reading with Remmy is an encouraging story for emerging readers, especially those who know how frustrating sounding out a sentence can feel.

A reader’s best friend 🐾 and a Children’s Book Review Editor’s Pick!

Finley longs to read, but can’t make sense of all of the words on the page, and Remmy is a Goldendoodle who finds it difficult to obey.

Their unexpected friendship brings out the best in each of them.

As Finley reads aloud to Remmy day after day, she discovers that patience, practice, and encouragement can make even the hardest challenges feel possible. And Remmy? He becomes the perfect listener―gentle, faithful, and always ready for story time.

“He answers in the stars and in the dew.
He calls them out from violence and pride.
Into the promise of His friendship still.”
