Remember film cameras?

Last week a 12-year-old on one of my tours was taking pictures with a disposable camera and thinking carefully about it. When you only have 36 shots, you have to be very sure about each one.

So here I am rediscovering the joys of film. The viewfinder is way smaller than I remembered. But it was still super exciting picking up the prints from Snappy Snaps.

Anyway, here’s a glimpse of the edge of Petticoat Lane market, looking very analogue indeed.

Some of my favourite film captures from July.

I like to limit myself to 1 or 2 rolls per month and I then scan them myself or I will get too carried away!

These were captured on my new to me FED 4 and I LOVE IT. Thank you @camerasbymax it is perfect! And @shelley21512 for getting jt for me 💛

Black and white is Kentmere 400.
Colour is Lucky C200.

Fast forward to my fifth roll of film - but with a different camera (again) 🎞️

I left my Pentax ME Super at home for our day at the @middevonshow last month - and instead took my grandad’s old point & shoot, a Canon Sureshot 35-70mm from the mid-90s 📸

Loaded up with Kodak Gold 200 on a scorching day in the sun, I’m so happy with the results. You don’t need an expensive camera to make shots you’re proud of - I’ll be using this little thing a lot more from now on. Cheers grandad 🙏❤️

These first two photos are my poor Olympus OM-10 trying her best back in June. I had started to notice some shadows on the right of my photos like in photo 2 and a gusty trip to Portland Bill pushed her over the edge!

The last two photos from her first outing are after she was cleaned up by the amazing @camerasbymax! Absolutely thrilled to have her back in better condition than ever. Now my blurry photos are yet again no one's fault but my own 📸

Thank you Max!

It has been a minute since I last dabbled in black and white photography, taking me right back to messing around with pinhole cameras during my foundation year in 2007. For my birthday I got my hands on an absolutely stunning vintage Canon Demi in Rose Wood. The best part is that it is a half frame camera, which means I get double the images out of a single roll! 📸✨

I am completely in love with the grainy texture of these shots and the beautiful way this little setup captures the light. Swipe through to see a few of my favorites from this test roll, and stay tuned because colour images are coming next! 🎨

Our Young Photographers meet every Saturday morning taking, processing and printing images shot entirely on film. Aged between 13 and 18 it’s great to see analogue processes being enjoyed by an emerging generation of photographers. The darkroom at Assembly Arts is fully equipped with all the equipment and materials needed to process and print black and white photographs whilst we run introductory courses throughout the year along with induction sessions. Analogue photography is undoubtedly experiencing a resurgence as more and more people of all ages discover or reconnect with the satisfaction of creating photographs purely by understanding how film cameras and darkrooms work. More suppliers of film and paper are entering the market (we use the brilliant @parallaxcoop ), dealers and repairers of used equipment (including @camerasbymax and @mrcaduk) continue to do good business, whilst many organisations promote photography to encourage greater participation. @ilfordphoto and @harmanphoto have recently expanded their production lines whilst the @royalphotographicsociety does fantastic work both nationally and regionally, complimentary the activities of galleries and organisations across the UK including @photoconnectnorth @openeyegallery @streetlevelphotoworks and @signalfilmmedia amongst others. If you or someone you know would like to know more about film photography please get in touch. #photography #filmphotography #analogphotography #darkroomphotography

Analogue photography is alive and kicking! We love how a new generation is discovering the characteristics of film photography and finding meaning in creating unique and personal images. Mr Cad in Victoria has been open since 1962 and we’re pleased to be customers of @analoguewonderland @parallaxcoop @firstcallphoto @camerasbymax and @ilfordphoto amongst many others. @mrcaduk #analoguephotography #darkroom #photography #blackandwhitephotography
