brb, going on this side quest 🩺⚕️🥼

When I was applying to college, I was planning on producing music or drawing comics. Then, on the day I celebrated my 18th birthday, my mom got sandwiched between three trucks on the highway. She suffered permanent nerve damage, and our lives flipped upside down.

After countless medical visits, I took her to a church where people prayed over her for just ten minutes… and somehow, the “permanent” started changing. She walked out crying, saying she was healed. She could cook, sleep, walk, and live normally again. When we returned to the doctors, they were shocked and called it a medical miracle. I knew it was God.

During that season, I remember a gentle, warm voice telling me to remember that pit in my stomach, and to pursue medicine so I could care for my mom and others experiencing that same helplessness. I didn’t recognize it then, but I now know that voice to be the Holy Spirit’s. So, naturally, I switched my college applications to premed at the last minute. 😭

My mom’s healing taught me that health isn’t just charts and prescriptions. It’s physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual. I’m so grateful to attend a medical school whose mission emphasizes whole-person care and medical missions, treating people as whole humans, not just symptoms.

My prayer is that my future patients receive excellent care and experience the Father’s love through every interaction with me and my team.

So this white coat is for my mom, my friends and family, my future patients, and most importantly, Jesus, who’s the real MVP!

If I take even longer to reply to your texts, I’m not ghosting, I promise, I’m just grinding 😭🥼

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” - Psalm 147:3

The white coat is more than a symbol. It’s a commitment to science, compassion, and service. 🩺🤍

Campbell University’s White Coat Ceremony marks an important milestone for our incoming medical students as they begin their journey toward becoming physicians. It’s a rite of passage that reinforces the values of professionalism, empathy, and compassionate patient care.

That commitment extends beyond the exam room. Rooted in our mission to serve rural and underserved communities, our future physicians are preparing to make a lasting difference in the lives of patients and the communities they call home.

Our impact will last a lifetime.

Connecting through research! 🔬💻 Faculty, staff, and students from CPHS and CUSOM joined our virtual Research Forum, with some gathering in Smith Hall to participate together.

Dr. Susan Misciagno’s, OTD, OTR/L, BCG, assistant professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical & Clinical Sciences, presentation explored whether perceived social disconnection was associated with having multiple chronic conditions among Hispanic adults ages 65 and older and the implications for social participation and healthy aging.

Our Research Forums bring the Campbell community together to share research, exchange ideas, and explore opportunities for collaboration across disciplines.

Behind the glitz and glam that you may see, one of the core pillars of who I am has always been mentorship. 🤎

Honored to be featured in the Summer 2026 edition of @campbelledu Magazine, sharing a little of my journey and the story behind @colorofmedicine .

Mentorship is deeply personal to me. I know what it means to have someone see potential in you, make the introduction, open the door—or simply remind you that you belong in the room.

When @dr.leach and I started Color of Medicine in 2018, the vision was to create more of those moments for the next generation. Eight years later, that vision continues through mentorship, clinical experiences, STEM education, professional development, and creating access to opportunity.

This year, we brought that vision to life in a new way with our inaugural ONE Voice Speaker Forum—and I couldn’t be more excited about what’s still to come.

The degree may have my name on it, but the purpose has always been bigger than me. 🤎

Be sure to follow @colorofmedicine to see more of what we’re building—and what’s still to come. ✨
