At the World Economic Forum in Davos last week, Canopy introduced a $2 billion USD investment blueprint aimed at accelerating low-carbon material innovation.

The launch convened public and private sector leaders, including D. Sridhar Babu, Hon’ble Minister for Industries and Commerce, IT, E&C, Government of Telangana, India, with India being explored as an initial market.

An estimated 5.1 billion trees are cut down every year for paper, packaging, and textiles with a significant share sourced from Ancient and Endangered Forests. The blueprint is designed to support investment pathways across those sectors to transition toward circular, lower-carbon production using agricultural residues and recycled feedstocks instead of inputs sourced from vital ecosystems. Last week opened with recognition of Canopy’s long-term climate impact through the WEF GAEA Award and the Climate Scale-Up Award, reflecting over 26 years of collaboration across brands, innovators, and frontline forest protectors to conserve vital ecosystems around the world.

Davos also marked the launch of Canopy’s $2 billion USD investment blueprint, focused on enabling the next phase of low-carbon material innovation and supply-chain transformation.

From climate solutions to blended finance, the emphasis in Davos this year was on building systems that are credible, investable, and designed to endure.

Six years ago at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Canopy introduced a new idea with the launch of Survival: A Pulp Thriller; a plan to transform global pulp, paper, packaging, and viscose supply chains by scaling alternative feedstocks to displace fibre sourced from Ancient and Endangered Forests.

At the World Economic Forum this week, Shruti Singh, Country Director of India at Canopy, highlights India’s strategic role in scaling Next Gen fibres made from agricultural residues, recycled materials, and food waste for circular use across the textiles and packaging sectors.

With strong innovation ecosystems, reliable feedstocks, and established manufacturing capacity, India is well positioned to lead both domestic adoption and export-oriented growth in circular fibre solutions.

Canopy has been named a 2026 GAEA Award winner by the World Economic Forum.

The GAEA Awards, convened by the World Economic Forum and hosted by Frontiers Science House yesterday evening in Davos, recognize leaders who are driving ambitious, science-based action on nature and climate through collaboration and systems change. This recognition reflects Canopy’s work to align brands, producers, Indigenous leaders, investors, and governments to shift markets away from primary forest materials, towards low-carbon, circular alternatives.

Canopy is honoured to be recognized alongside global science and action leaders working to keep nature and climate at the center of economic decision-making, and grateful to the World Economic Forum and the GAEA initiative for the recognition.
