ARTIST TAKEOVER | enorê 💥 We asked artist @capirotices about the work that they have been developing as part of the Jerwood Somerset House Studios residency. ❓Tell us a few things about the work you have been developing during the residency, which themes and ideas you’ve been exploring, and what you’re hoping to achieve with this work. 💬 “During this residency, I’m continuing my research on the entanglements between physical embodiment and digital technology, by looking at the Tamagotchi as a point of convergence of different realms. I’m interested in how the act of caring for and carrying a virtual object can be thought in terms of relations between physical and digital spaces, portals and portability, and digital temporality — such as the way digital objects are expected to exist above time, with digital files being constantly recreated in memory every time they are accessed. I’m also interested in material translations that arise from transiting between physical and digital spaces, and how that reflects in the way the body processes and is reshaped by digital data. I have been working primarily with digital media and 3D printed ceramics, and experimenting with multiple ways of creating files to be printed in clay, as well as with traditional ceramic techniques to further develop the printed pieces, enabling an exchange between machine and handmade. Soon, I’m looking forward to implementing more digital elements in my pieces, and trying out new scales and dimensions for them, thinking of how they can seep into and inhabit the spaces they’re in.” 📍 enorê is a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist based in London and working with 3D printed ceramics, textile and video.
