🎨 Portraits of Zennor sessions recommencing tomorrow, Thursday 1st October, and every Thursday right through until Christmas. 🎄. These are untutored sessions open to all levels of experience wishing to engage in portrait practice, where the lovely, wild and character full folk of Zennor have been kindly sitting for us to paint their portraits.
In return we will be hosting an exhibition of them all and they can choose to keep their favourite painting of themselves.
It’s great fun and a really supportive group of people attending regularly. There is siace for more to attend.
It’s in a drop in basis though booking/payment needs to be made via our website: justlife.art however this can be done in the day.
Look forward to seeing some of you tomorrow.
Images are of some of the portraits of Zennor folk we have painted during these sessions so far. #portraitpainting #zennor #justlifeart #stives #cornwall

A Sardine Festival.

Fish, music, boats, bars and art. But truly so much more than that.

The passion on the faces of those who created this was apparent. Smiles and emotion at what we pulled together with limited resources in an impossibly short time, pure joy at the fact that all these people came to celebrate the sardine with us: This wasn’t a conventional food festival. It was our festival, a Sardine Festival.

Over a thousand people fed, visitors relishing in the atmosphere created by a thousand grilling fish, the sights and sounds of a Portuguese summer, in the heart of our harbour. Yes the queues were long - but we’re grateful to those who waited and hope that a freshly grilled sardine at the end was well worth it. Kind comments from those who saw how hard our team worked to make it happen made our day.

Tom, Andrew and Jack delivered on fish at 4am Saturday morning, just hours before crowds began to gather on the Harbour. You could not eat a fresher sardine.

A row of plates on the gunnels of the Lyonesse - crew, families and visitors tucking in with their hands. Their catch, eaten on their boat, behind us smoke from the grills filling the Harbour and The Strand. Alongside the net sheds, more ring netters, and the great sails of luggers that fished these waters centuries before in search of the same catch. History and tradition, alongside a modern and thriving present, and a group of people proudly upholding a heritage that they are the beating heart of.

To see such energy swirling around the harbour, and at the centre of it this group of genuine people, committed to something beyond just their own day to day, was a special thing. This was their day, and they enjoyed it to its fullest. Our team, along with crews and volunteers, danced until after dark, as WTWTA’s tunes signalled that the hard work was done, and we could kick back to enjoy our efforts. Well done all.

It goes without saying that this would not have happened without the best crew of organisers; an enormous thank you to Gus, Tom, David, Will, Marcia, Pete, Judith and Larry, whose love for this harbour and its community helped establish such a wonderful event.

See you in 2026.
