Stephen King Sunday - The Stand

I’m on the other side.

I don’t know how I’m supposed to sum up reading a book this complex in one instagram post, so I’ll keep it brief and spoiler free.

The Stand is exemplary of King’s understanding of character. This is how he brings whole towns to life. He removed all the trappings of an America we would recognize and built settings out of people. The way he was able to explore and embody so many different beliefs, experiences, and personalities was, frankly, impressive. I’m using a lot of e words, here, but the man has empathy.

The horror was real even with certain villainous types seeming otherworldly. The questions he raises are still relevant, maybe even moreso, and were such an undertaking to try and answer. I think we got some good ones, though.

I won’t say more on that and will instead say thank you to the wonderful group (of 19 😎) that joined me for this readalong. The discussions have been wonderful, respectful, fun, nuanced, hilarious, emotional… basically everything this reader could ask for when talking about a book. I can’t wait to see where the rest of our discussion takes us!

✨Six Faces Challenge ✨

Nicole of @planespagesandpens tagged me in this challenge several weeks ago. I didn't forget! I'm just slow.

Anyway, the challenge is to find 6 books with faces on the covers. I didn't look for favorites. Instead, I went to the overflow piles in my home library and grabbed the first 6 I could find.
.
I've read three of these: The Sadness of Beautiful Things, Kindred, and The Last of the Gaderene. The first two were excellent but I don't really remember the Doctor Who. One I've attempted twice and will give one last chance, Netherwood. I'm a mood reader so it could have been bad timing. The other two are new to me within the last year or two.

Quite a hodgepodge, really.
