Oracle, a disability-centered exhibition, holds wisdom of the ill body in foam, glass, and video. The works range from inspection of disabled bodies, bodies under surveillance and dissection, to the figurative sculpture that holds and honors disabled people as oracles themselves. A Disabled Oracle is a person regarded as an infallible authority or guide on disability, including disabled wisdom from the past, present, and future. This is coined by Alice Wong, Jen White-Johnson, and Aimi Hamraie. The space acknowledges the harm of medicalized trauma and the historical understanding of disability as only a problem, but pushes toward a new revelation of disabled knowledge, ancestry, power, and divination. This new crip wisdom is seen in the figurative sculpture in foam titled Who’s Ideal (Whose Ideal)? (2026). Crip Wisdom is the embodied knowledge of disability community and disabled people, coined by Sins Invalid. Foam becomes a dominate material throughout the exhibition because of the deep connection I have to it. I view it as a contemporary material that is distinctly disabled and chronically ill as it often covers surfaces and cradles my body: in bed, in shoes, on chairs, nearly everything I utilize daily. Throughout this exhibition’s creation, I ruminated on the words of the disabled ancestor that recently passed, Alice Wong, who said: “My body you call broken, I call an oracle.” @disability_visibility

NCECA’s 60th Annual Conference, Volumes, in Detroit. @nceca

NCECA is like coming home. I’ve been attending since 2015, when I was a wee-wannabe potter at SUNY Potsdam. I think back: where was I then? Providence, RI. Volunteering for conference registration, sleeping at a Super 8. My dad, ever supportive, drove me all the way there and back from Peekskill.

Eleven years later, I’m still held up by a constellation of family, friends, mentors, and colleagues. Often, they’re all one and the same. My pal and comrade @donnamcgeetilesandpots Remember when you’d meditate in the mornings while we roomed together at past NCECAs? I try to carve out that same space for contemplation now, too.

Running into the incredible community of @peekskillclaystudios (Jessica Dubin and @wintertreepottery ) revived a gratitude I’ve long felt but hadn’t yet named. That space gave me permission to experiment, flounder, and eventually find my footing. May we all find places like that.

Meeting @ehrentool and sharing my madrastra (stepmom), Robby’s, story. To be listened to and heard. To then be gifted a cup. Reciprocity. Thank you, Ehren.

And how encouraging it is to talk shop with @leslieferrin , @extremecraft , @elizabethannwilliamsri , @asharaekundayogallery and #AdrienneSpinozzi. To share a language, and to speak it fluently as we imagine what’s next.

Finally @ChristinaWest Shall our next conference be a bodybuilding expo? I think so!

Enough gushing. Here are a few glimpses from a lively, heady, heartening few days.

A little sneak peek for the "Outpour" exhibition during the NCECA conference this year!

Outpour is a figurative exhibition by all artists with disabilities exploring the body as a vessel and container. Each artist interprets what it means to be held in a body. Carly "Car" Riegger, Molly Green, Sorrel Stone, V Walton, Anna Wagner, Juno Soleil, Samantha Wickman, and Holly Marie Matthews.

Disabilities are a diverse spectrum, from needing physical & ambulatorv aids, day-to-day tasks, differences in cognitive processing abilities, to mental health disorders, and much more.

I did not start discussing my disabilities till my mid-20's; having learning disabilities is not something to be proud of back then, and I was met with bullying. Since I became open about the subject, I have been met with a lot of love and empathy, but also sometimes confusion and cruelty.

To destigmatize, we need to be open to vulnerability, honesty, and empathy because the system is not built for us, disabled bodies. Change needs to happen, and that change benefits EVERYONE. Not just some of us, but ALL OF US. Which is why I am so very honored to be a part of this exhibition.

Please, come by Galerie Camille next week and start a dialogue and spark change! ❤️

The Warren MacKenzie Advancement Award (WMAA), founded in 2014, provides an opportunity for students and emerging artists to continue their ceramic research and education for a period of up to twelve consecutive months within the grant year, further expanding their professional development. Click the link in our bio to apply now! Applications are due by April 5, 2026 at 5 pm CT.

This award is available to current undergraduate or graduate students, recent graduates (within one year), or those who have completed a university-equivalent training in ceramics (including apprenticeship and mentorship programs) within the year prior to the application deadline.

During the grant year, the recipient can research a new technique or process, study with a mentor or in an apprenticeship setting, travel to other ceramic art centers or institutions for classes and workshops, collaborate with artists of another media, and travel. Proposals to fund large capital equipment purchases will not be accepted. One cash award of up to $2,000 will be made in 2026 for a project taking place between May 1, 2026, and April 30, 2027. The recipient will contribute project updates to NCC’s social media and is required to give a public presentation at their school or other institution following the completion of their proposed activities.

Past WMAA recipients have gone to China to learn about local ceramics (Z. Cecilia Lu, 2023), and traveled to the Mutter Museum to explore how disabilities have been represented in history and art (Car Riegger, 2024).

This award is made possible through the support of generous individual and institutional donors in honor of Warren MacKenzie’s legacy of ceramic education, both traditional and non-traditional.
