… a fantastic day of recording a new project called Quantaikotech at Goody Sound in Oakland, CA where we blended quantum music concepts with free improvisation and compositional contributions from all members. We had everything from tunes with traditional notation, to graphic scores, to text based instructions, to everything in between.

What has made this group so fascinating, for me, is how organically we all came together. I met keyboardist Unpil Baek (@unpil.baek) and taiko drummer Koh Yamakawa (@yamakawataikoh) at Oakland music incubator Wyldflowr Arts. I encountered flutist and music technologist Scott Oshiro (@syoflute) through my work with Francis Wong. Taiko drummer and music journalist Cara Nguyen (@caradox) attended an evening event at Rootstock Arts where Francis held court sharing stories about his work with Asian Improv aRts. What started as chance meetings led to a jam session which led to more formalised rehearsals and which culminated in today’s studio recording.

This record will likely see the light of day sometime in 2027 after I clear the current backlog of recordings that need mixing and producing. In the meantime, I am grateful for music, for a supportive spouse, and in a strange way perhaps even thankful for the uncertain times we live in for it is the weird energy of the current political climate that has fuelled this intense schedule of creative music making for me. With gratitude to my Quantaikotech bandmates and to all of my collaborators in the San Francisco Bay Area music scenes, may we find some solace and perhaps a glimmer of hope in the music we make together. 🙏🏾🖖🏾☺️

… THERE. ARE. FOUR. LIGHTS! 🖖🏾💫

… 🚨 NEW PROJECT ALERT! 🚨

4 of the 5 members of this new band actually met for the first time at the tail end of my Wyldflowr Arts / Rootstock Arts three day residency back in December 2025. Since then, we’d been looking for a way to collaborate together. Add in another chance meeting with the fifth member at an Asian Improv event in February of 2026, et voila … a new project is born.

This one is called Quantaikotech as we’re synthesising tradition and futurism, melding ancient sounds and new ones, and mixing it all together with concepts from the world of quantum music! Rehearsals are in progress, everyone is contributing music and ideas, and we’re slated to record an album this fall for release on @iridiumrecords!

Things are moving pretty fast, and if we “don’t stop and look around once in a while, (we) could miss it!”
