Coming out of—and still living through—COVID, we stayed rooted in our mission: giving back, staying in business, and continuing to tell meaningful stories during a deeply trying time.
We kept exploring how fashion and technology intersect, while consistently bringing other voices and stories to the forefront.
2021 → brought women together to celebrate Women’s History Month captured by @tomconcordia . @accessoriescouncil recognized our masks in support of @survivorcorps & @glam4good . #stophate collaboration featured in WWD organized with Stacy & @luisxjonathan .

2022 → NFT collaboration with artists meeting artists inside our logos in support of @chicagoabortionfund featured in @dailymail , WWD and many others . Our @roblox collaboration with @wear_blueberry as featured in wwd & @voguebusiness 👟💎

2023 → @stacyigel’s first book @embracingthecalminthechaos drops from @harpercollins @hcleadership — #embracingthecalminthechaos.

As we are now in our 30th year of art, community, change, we are excited to share that we have SURPASSED our goal of $30,000 in our 2025 end of year campaign!

Your generous donations play a role in helping the next generation grow as artists and leaders while sharing community stories through public art.

Our legacy encompasses over 700 social justice murals across all five boroughs of New York City and reaches tens of thousands of young people, community members, and organizations.

Just this past year, Groundswell provided more than 1,000 hours of programs and services for nearly 300 young people at our studio, in public schools, and at mural sites throughout the city. We offered a safe and welcoming space for arts learning, where students could explore their creativity and identity, develop leadership and agency, and build community.

On public school walls, in community centers, and throughout New York City neighborhoods, our murals come to life, capturing the creativity and magic of our youth and communities. They focus on change, self-reflection, and aspirations for the future, while telling stories of healing and people being in service to one another.

We are excited to see the amazing art and murals that will be created throughout this historic year at Groundswell!

This past Wednesday, we had a blast hosting a group of students from the Oxbridge summer program!

In the morning, our current artist-in-residence, @lisalabra, gave an artist talk to the students where she introduced her body of work and her approach to creative problem-solving. In the afternoon, she guided the group through a hands-on stop motion animation workshop using NYC-themed cutout props. The students walked away with an introduction to Lisa’s work as well as insight into the process and collaboration involved in storytelling through animation.

Today is the last day of Lisa’s residency! Make sure to stop and see her animations before they’re gone!

Hello June. Goodbye May.
There’s a place I’ve been going to since before I moved to NYC in 1999—thanks to my sister @rhoda1. Nearly every birthday, I’ve brought old and new friends there.

On the wall, it reads: “It doesn’t matter if you sing well. It only matters if you love it.” And I do—with my whole soul.

For a few hours, you’re one with everyone around you, singing as one. Music has always calmed and healed my soul. It doesn’t matter the genre—I’ve had the honor of working with some of the most iconic musicians in my career. Sharing their music through @boymeetsgirlusa at NYFW and events from Paris to Finland has been pure magic.

From the runway to small rooms filled with chosen family, these are the moments I treasure. I wish that kind of peace for everyone.

My heart hurts for the world right now—and maybe, like me, you need to let it out. I highly recommend belting show tunes. It might just cure your soul for a little while.
