THE UK’S ONLY AMERICAN BISCUIT SHOP IS IN THE NORTHERN QUARTER

When Gab and partner Dustin Durrance opened Cardinal Rule, they were on a mission to show us Brits what we’ve been missing, and it’s fair to say, we’ve come around to the whole thing.

We sat down with Gab to talk through some of their inimitable menu items (it’s not all about fried chicken) and to clarify, once and for all, why a biscuit is definitely not ‘just a scone’.

And while some other establishments do have biscuits on the menu, there’s nowhere doing them quite like Cardinal Rule - for them it’s a way of life.

This week’s special is a sweet potato biscuit with brie, rocket and house-made bacon jam. Even better, a portion of sales goes to @eatwellmcr to help tackle food insecurity in Manchester.

We know where we’ll be this weekend.

Visited @cardinalrule_mcr as a treat to celebrate us finishing the Manchester Half Marathon!

I got the vegan biscuit with vegan chicken, pickles and chipotle mayo 🥒
I can't believe we left it so long to visit because this is next level!

Needed a lunch break from the watches so I made my way over to Manchester's Northern Quarter neighbourhood to Northern Monk Refectory.

...and inside Northern Monk is Cardinal Rule. Cardinal Rule serves tasty fried chicken on American biscuits. It's one of the few places in the UK where you can get authentic American biscuits.

...and take it from THIS American, these are as good as it gets.

This was actually a lot tastier than I expected. The biscuit wasn't at all dry but remained nice and a bit crumbly. The chicken was pretty perfect. Such a fun combination but I wish there was more hot honey. I'd eat here again but maybe got for the one with the ranch for the extra sauciness

Cardinal Rule have Bavarian Pretzels this month with their home made beer cheese using Northern Monk Beer 🤤

You simply can’t be having delicious Oktoberfest beer steins without Pretzels - as Nathan can attest to (he’s the number one pretzel purchaser currently 👀)

Combining our love for food and frolicking around manchester, @foodescapes_ was such a fun way to spend a saturday !!

With clues sent via whatsapp, each one guided us to the next independent eatery, where we were rewarded with a dish each 😋 And just when we thought we’d been to all the best foodie spots in MCR, we really enjoyed getting to experience some new independent locations while exploring the city!🚶🏻‍♀️🤩

There’s a few themes to pick from, but we did the Comfort Cravings escape which included the following: (⚠️swipe for spoilers ⚠️)

📍First stop: Hello Oriental 🥡 (salt & pepper fries + salt & pepper nuggets)

📍Second stop: Cardinal Rule at Northern Monk 🍗🧇 (Miss Honey biscuit & The Hot Take biscuit)

Cardinal Rule serves authentic Southern American-style, buttery and fluffy savoury biscuits with crispy buttermilk fried chicken 🐔

The Miss Honey: crispy buttermilk-brined fried chicken breast, hot honey & chipotle mayo

The Hot Take: Spicy fried chicken breast, housemade dill buttermilk ranch & pickles

📍Last Stop: Black Milk 🍪 (had to get this to takeaway as we were sooo full) (cookie pie + sticky toffee) 😋

What a fun date day activity to explore the city and consume some delicious food! 🤩
