Legends never die 55k. What a ride. Lots of highs and plenty of lows. I am beyond grateful to everyone who was there to support me though. The @albionrunco squad came out strong and inspire me to get faster and mentally get tougher. 34 miles, 8 hours and 22 mins, 7000 feet of elevation gain, too many gels and waffles and a lifetime of memories. I have to give a huge shout out to my wife @shelbyashby for being there for me helping me recover and putting up with all of the craziness leading up to this race. I couldn’t do it without her. To my best friend @carliandbeau for convincing me to run a 10k a year ago and to @idahoultrarunner for dialing in my nutrition and training. I am so grateful to call you guys friends.

Outlaw trail ultra half marathon today did not disappoint. Beyond grateful for great friends, hard challenges and a body that affords me the chance to see it. #livemorehurtless #activelife #physicaltherapy

I never thought I’d become “a runner.”

But lately, I’ve realized it isn’t really about running.

It’s about saying yes to experiences that ask something of you.

The early alarms, the sore legs, the miles that make you question your life choices… 😂 Those moments are easier and a whole lot more meaningful when you’re surrounded by good people.

This 30K at the McCall Trail Running Classic reminded me that some of the best memories come from doing hard things with friends. The suffering fades, but the stories stick.

As a parent, it’s easy to default to comfort because life is already busy. But I want my kids to see that growth doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when we willingly step into challenges.

I’m still not sure I’d call myself a runner.

I’m just someone who’s learning that seeing the world on foot with great friends is a pretty incredible way to live.

This weekend I did something I never thought I would do. I ran the Redfish Lake half-marathon. It didn’t go exactly how I wanted it to, I learned a ton and I wouldn’t have done it with anyone else. I’m incredibly grateful for this group of people, the support of my family and for a body that lets me keep trying dumb things to see what it’s made of. We will be back.
