This is mine.

Every win floating on the surface…

With grief, pain or adversity underneath.

The burnout.

Three years of chasing everything, distracting yourself and building nothing.

Until it all clicks.

This is the full story.

From not speaking until I was three, to heading up education for one of the best communities online.

Every U-turn was pointing somewhere.

(I just didn’t know it at the time)

I joined an Australian-based creator community in May 2023.

It was one of the best decisions (and investments) I've ever made. Here's why.

At the time of joining, I felt so lost and burned out.

I was 12 months into my one-person business journey and things weren't going well.

I had run into significant cash-flow issues, was late paying subcontractor invoices, and had to go on a payment plan to pay off my quarterly BAS.

In hindsight, these problems weren't existential.

But at the time, they felt big. I remember feeling like a complete and utter failure.

While I was growing my following on Medium, I wasn't taking my writing or creator journey seriously.

I didn't think I could make a business out of it.

I had no business backend and no real source of monetization.

So when I found this community, I was burned out and lacked confidence and belief in myself as a creative and entrepreneur.

In the 10 months since joining the community, I:

⭐ Recovered my one-person consulting business back to a healthy monthly revenue. My business was later acquired by Sedo Group.

⭐ I went from 6,600 to 37,000 Medium Followers

⭐ I went from 0 email subscribers to 3,100 email subscribers

⭐ No email newsletter to now 46 editions being published.

⭐ No digital products to 6 digital products making me $20 (USD) per day.

That's close to 600% growth (or more) in every area of my business.

Connection to others is the long-term antidote to burnout and loneliness.

I'm so fortunate that I can call upon this group of people for help, support, and problem-solving whenever I need it.

If you're feeling lost.

Find your community.

Loneliness has killed more business dreams than a lack of talent ever will.

Getting out of your head and putting things to action is easier said than done. Especially when you’re doing it on your own, burnt out and lost.

It took a message in September to @danielmambaodoi to feel seen, a commitment to being held accountable in the Storyteller Sprints to feel heard, and proximity to likeminded human beings to be spoiled with value.

I was struggling to heal and empower the creative in me on my own. In 6 months, I’ve been fortunate to feel community online and in person. Taking that chance to seek people has changed my life and restored confidence within me. Being strong and fearless on your own can be done, but to do that with the right people to support you, criticise and empower you makes one believe anything is possible.

The people I’ve met in the last 6 months have helped heal something they never broke. They empowered me just by proximity.

This past weekend being among creatives and solopreneurs having collective knowledge sharing, open minded conversations and top tier banter consolidated the fact you cannot replicate the power of in person connectivity.

I feel so privileged, inspired and in awe of this community. I’ve learned so much in such little time and can’t wait to see how all of you own your journey and make strides in what you passionately pursue.

How do you cure loneliness and burnout as a creator?

Community.

Specifically in-person events.

There’s a little known East African proverb that goes…

“Alone a youth runs fast, with an elder slow, but together they go far.”

With the universal variation that we all know today as:

“Those who travel fast, go alone but those that travel far go together.”

This is what happens when you proactively seek out your people.

Even if it means flying from Singapore to Melbourne.

Instead, follow this approach before sinking a lot of time (or money) into your next idea.

1️⃣ LISTEN: Research to confirm if there's ACTUAL demand or need for what you're offering (or trying to solve)

2️⃣ LEARN: Speak directly with potential (or actual) customers to validate your idea or approach towards solving their problem

3️⃣ LAUNCH: Build the leanest & scrappiest functional version of your product ("Minimum Viable Product/Offer") to get real feedback from the market ASAP so you can iterate and improve.

⭐️ Use this process, and you'll ensure you successfully launch a product that the market actually wants

We thought it was time to introduce ourselves!

From left to right, we’re Carlin, Hugo and Ruweka and we’re the humans behind the sea of snoots on this page. We from Melbourne and currently live in Sydney, Australia.

Ruweka is a vet, with a special interest in rescue greyhound health. Ruweka once convinced Carlin that it would be a great idea to foster (and one day, adopt) greyhounds. We’ve never looked back! Also, little Hugo is by default, a lover of greyhounds now, too. 😊

We’ve recently taken over this page as we saw it was a good opportunity to continue to raise awareness of the life that greys are often born into and the need for foster carers and adopters of these beautiful creatures. We want to highlight all the greys out there to further display what great pets they are.

We’ve also started an associated blog and weekly newsletter that will continue to share stories from the community and also be a resource of new and current grey owners, highlighting the specific needs of our unique little pointy beings.

Thanks for sticking around and hopefully we can be a hub of fun and helpfulness to the greyhound community.

We thought it was about time we introduced ourselves!

From left to right, we are: Ruweka, Hugo and Carlin.

🙍🏾‍♀️Ruweka works as a small animal vet and even though she’s a mum, claims her dad jokes are better than Carlin’s.

👦🏽Hugo spends 98% of his day on level 11 and will pay more attention to you if you’re holding something with wheels.

🧔🏻Carlin runs a small marketing agency and when he isn’t pretend laughing at Ruweka’s dad jokes is likely making Italian coffee or pizza.

We’re excited to be able to host you and love being able to share the beautiful Ballarat and surrounds with you. We hope you feel @athomeinballarat 😊!
