We try a lot of wines at Veritas each and every week. This one caught our attention.

Winemaker Bastien Warskotte is originally from Champagne and was raised in a viticultural family before he traveled the world studying winemaking. When he met and married Georgian Nino Gvantseladze, the pair decided to settle in Nino’s home country to start their own winery together, with a mission to combine the deep and differing winemaking traditions of their ancestries.

The Ori Marani Winery is located west of Tbilisi, known for having a cooler climate. Grapes mature slowly and keep a lot of freshness. Soils are limestone and clay. Wines see time in Georgian qvevri and old French barrels. All wines are fermented with native yeast, aged on the lees, unfined and unfiltered.

NINO Multi-Vintage sparkling wine is made from four native grapes. Tsitka, Tsolikouri, Chinuri and Goruli Mstvane. A traditional method of sparkling wine whose base is a"reserve perpetuelle”. This reserve wine is kept in Qvevri, giving a singular Georgian identity. Fermented and aged in 90% old French oak barrels and 10% Qvevri, with a minimum of 15 months on the lees. Bottled as Extra Brut (2 g/L dosage).

The wine is fresh but just leesy enough to make you think it is champagne. More of a sommelier style - the wine is unique and with interesting herbaceous and anise seed notes. Super clean and bright.

Not being from Champagne, the wine is affordable for everyday consumption. The wine is under $40.

A wonderful discovery for us and we hope for you too.

From the sandstorm swept foothills of Ningxia, China, Emma Gao has helped put Chinese wine on the international map. After studying winemaking in France, Gao returned home and founded Silver Heights with her family in 2007, betting that Ningxia’s harsh climate, rocky soils, and dramatic temperature swings could create something truly unique. What started with a small family investment has grown into a winery whose wines are now poured in some of the world’s top restaurants, with fans from New York to London to Milan.

What makes Gao’s story so exciting is her willingness to challenge what we think great wine is supposed to be. She’s blending French winemaking experience with the distinct terroir and traditions of China, creating wines that have surprised sommeliers in blind tastings and sparked a growing international interest in Chinese wine. We’re proud to carry her Bordeaux from Carnelia Wine, a chance to taste a little piece of this fascinating new chapter in the wine world. 🍷🇨🇳 @silverheightsvineyard @carnelia.wine
