Closing out an incredible Prague photo program 😭 I’m so proud of the students for all their growth as people and as photographers over these last three weeks. Some had just completed their freshman year, or first semester as a transfer, or recently graduated, or started their master’s, and everywhere in between. They came with a variety of experience, whether in photography or travel or life in general, and became peer mentors to one another as we navigated Prague. I can’t say enough about this group and am excited to see what they all do next.

And none of this would be possible without the rest of the team: @andreagbriscoe, @veru_ha_, @aeprague, @amyhicks143, @globalgradyuga and of course @adelathebossbaby.

Na zdraví!

Take a CLOSER look at the Khamoro Parade through the lens of our students!! 💚🩵🎺💃

Grady students on the Travel Journalism in Prague program had the unique opportunity to photograph the 2026 Khamoro Parade!! This festival celebrates Roma culture from around the world in the heart of Europe. Students were immersed into the center of this parade, and they focused on looking closer to capture the finer details in their pictures.

Today was my last day as a student at @ugagrady 🥹
This school has been such a home for me for the past five years and has brought me some of the dearest people in my life. I couldn’t imagine having gone anywhere else to learn how to be a journalist. ❤️🐾📰

A week on the road, back to my homeland, to see family and attend the @nppa @northernshortcourse. I brought eight #ugavj kids from @ugagrady at the @universityofga and I saw more old friends than I can count. They got to see great work, hear how it was made and get feedback on their portfolios from some of the best in the business. We even got them in to meet the photo editors @bostonglobe. It was wicked awesome.

Had a blast at my first @northernshortcourse over the weekend in Massachusetts! It was intense at times and uplifting at others. We also had the opportunity to tour the Boston Globe newsroom, sit in on a photo meeting and ask questions to the photo team. So cool! I’m feeling inspired by not only the pros I saw and spoke with but my peers who are paving the way for a new kind of visual journalism.

David Carson has been a staff photojournalist at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch since 2000 and covered events from New York City during 9/11, presidential debates and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. His photos are featured in the staff’s 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography and received a regional Emmy award in 2008. Most recently, he was a 2024-2025 John S. Knight journalism fellow at Stanford University, studying the impacts, both good and bad, of artificial intelligence on photojournalism and potential solutions for increasing public trust.

In this episode, David talks about the trajectory of his career to the present, analyzing AI’s increased presence and threat to journalistic integrity. From detection tools to ethical considerations, he explains how the power of AI can and should be harnessed for good.
