Every one of these held me back longer than I’d like to admit. Don’t make the same mistakes I did. Well-intended doesn’t mean well-informed. Bad or uneducated advice can stall progress, create unnecessary restriction, lead to frustration or burnout, and cause long term detriments. Nutrition calculators are estimates, not prescriptions. Bodies aren’t formulas, and blindly following a number ignores activity, stress, recovery, and diet history. Under-fueling doesn’t just slow progress, it impacts hormones, energy, recovery, and overall health over time. My drastic measures led to years of repair work. Guessing portions almost always leads to inconsistency. You’re either under-eating, over-eating, or changing intake without realizing it.⚖️ Chasing calories burned shifts focus away from performance, recovery, and sustainability, and those numbers aren’t usually accurate anyway.⌚️ More cardio isn’t better. Without proper fueling and strength training, it often leads to muscle loss, fatigue, and stalled results. Whether it’s weight, calories, or macros, fixation creates stress and short-term thinking, not long-term success. There is no final destination. Make the process sustainable. Progress didn’t come from doing more. After a few weeks of holiday food, treats, and less routine, it’s easy to feel like you need to “clear things out” or internally reset to feel better, mentally and physically. You don’t. You don’t need a cleanse to start the year strong. Your body already has its own built-in way of doing that. Your liver, kidneys, and digestive system are working for you every single day, and don’t need teas, juices, or extreme rules to be effectively so their job. Most of what people blame on “toxins” is really just the result of inconsistent eating, low protein, poor sleep, dehydration, stress, alcohol, or weeks of restriction followed by overeating. A cleanse doesn’t fix that, it is just an extreme approach or “quick fix” that temporarily removes food (and important nutrients) and inevitably leads to fatigue, mood swings, disordered hunger cues, and a bad relationship with food and the cycle repeats. 🔁 What actually works isn’t extreme or exciting, it’s simple, repeatable habits you can be consistent with for longer than a week or two. Eating real meals. 🍽️ Fueling your body consistently. ⚡️ Moving your body regularly.🚶‍♀️ Lifting weights.💪🏼 Sleeping.😴 Routine.📆 Being patient.🧠 You don’t need to punish yourself to feel better. You don’t need to go to extremes to undo the “damage”. You need a plan that makes sense, you can be consistent with, and doesn’t burn you out. Alcohol has no nutritional value. It slows fat loss, impedes recovery, and dehydrates you — keep in mind, flexibility is earned and fitting drinks in requires a great deal of moderation. I certainly don’t encourage it, but if you’re not willing to give it up, here’s how to lessen the damage: ⸻ Hydration 💦 Alcohol pulls fluids fast. Add electrolytes (magnesium, potassium) to ~20 oz of water or more before bed to ease fatigue and headaches and make sure to go into the night with your water goal already hit. Alternating drinks with water can spread things out and help lessen the damage. . Protein 🍗 Stack protein into your day early and save some carbs and fats to offset calories from drinks. Eating before drinking helps slow absorption and stabilize blood sugar. It also helps reduce late-night cravings. . Movement 🏋🏼‍♀️ Lifting and cardio before going out supports blood sugar control and primes your metabolism. It also helps you recover faster the next day and sets a better tone/ mindset for the night. . Food Choices 🥗 Clean, whole foods reduce the stress on your system. Avoid pairing alcohol with high-fat, processed meals and skip the fast food drive thru on the way home. . Smarter Sips 🥃 Sugary drinks spike blood sugar and add extra calories (not to mention make for a nasty hangover). Lower-cal options like whiskey diet or tequila soda are easier to fit into your day. . Bounce Back 💤 Hangovers aren’t just dehydration — they’re inflammation, low blood sugar, and poor sleep.
