POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It's been five months since I moved into the new space and began this chapter as Casa Koru. The studio has grown and expanded so much since my days as idō, not just in terms of the space, offerings and team, but also in the way I operate as a business owner.

One of the biggest changes for me personally was hiring my very first full-time administrator in July. Her name is Kat, and although she was only with me for three months, I don't think she realises just how much she has changed the way I see leadership, support and what it means to run a business.

For the past seven years, I've been so accustomed to doing everything myself that learning to have someone support me was, surprisingly, one of the hardest adjustments I had to make.

I grew up with the mentality that money needed to be saved at all costs. If something could be done yourself, why pay someone else to do it? Hiring a full-time administrator felt like an unnecessary expense, especially when I had spent years convincing myself that I was perfectly capable of managing everything on my own. It triggered a scarcity mindset that I've carried with me for a very long time.

I used to think that being a responsible founder meant being able to do everything. That if I could manage something myself, I should. I didn't realise how much of my capacity was being consumed simply by trying to hold everything together.

Over the past seven years, this mindset has taken a toll on my mental, emotional and eventually hormonal health, as well as my personal relationships. It made me a founder who was constantly stretched thin, a leader who struggled to establish and uphold boundaries, and someone who became so accustomed to giving and accommodating that I often allowed myself to be taken advantage of.

In the past, I've often been told, "We're just a small studio, we don't need so much hassle."

But looking back, the real hassle was trying to run a studio without an extra pair of eyes, ears, hands and, perhaps most importantly, another brain. It was having things go unnoticed because I couldn't possibly be everywhere at once. It was having boundaries crossed because I didn't have the capacity to consistently enforce t

On the mat today! Inversions are still hard due to my tight shoulders, could really feel the pull in my right neck. Can’t wait for the day when i could do without discomfort again! Trusting the process💪

Filmed this in between clients few days ago, and I’m still not used to putting my actual thoughts into a voiceover instead of just a caption. But the basics are something I could talk about all day if you let me, footwork is the first one of them.

Most people rush through the simple stuff to get to the “real” exercises, without trying to understand the intention of the basics. If you’ve attended my classes before, you will know that I’ve never taught it that way, not even in my intermediate or advance classes - I will keep repeating and emphasising them. If you skip the simple stuff, the compensation just shows up later down the line instead, making it harder for you to actually progress 😵‍💫

Next time you’re doing footwork, ask yourself if you’re rushing it or actually doing it.

Q3 performance review, self-conducted: exceeds expectations 🤩🐾

Clients report "lovely energy" and intent to return specifically for me. Naturally. I'm called Studio Manager for a reason.. I manage the reviews and make sure we get all five stars ⭐

I have forwarded this to boss mamá for her records. No extra treats have been discussed. Concerning

Even after many hours of practice and teaching, there are some moves I unknowingly avoid doing because I feel like I don’t do it well much less be able to teach it well.

Scooter is one.

So today I decided to practice and give it a shot. Position of my standing leg differed slightly in each side (but I didnt realise), and it definitely made a difference in the movement. Should have also bent the standing leg more, especially during flat back for a neutral position. I also have a tendency to collapse in the shoulders, hence paid a bit more attention in the upper back during the round back.

One good thing I felt I did was the focus on breath, especially on the exhale which helped me to connect better to my core.

“Try, and you’ll know. Move, and you’ll grow.”

every pawdy, meet my PA Kat 🐾 she runs the studio for mamá, takes me on walks, and brings me to the pool when mamá's busy

I nap beside her all day and she swears I sigh like I've had a long day at work... but the only work I do is play 🐶
