Still reeling from this incredible summer of performance with @hitthelightsco @wptheater and this special show and people who helped make it possible 💫🌴Since closing ISLA this past weekend I just feel pride, gratefulness and excitement for whatever comes next. The talented company of artists I got to work with blew me away every day and the support from so many friends, families and complete strangers who were so deeply moved by this piece warms my heart💛
Supporting new original works is so important and I am so happy the wide reach and big impact this little show had. I could go on and on but for now I’ll say it was beyond a dream come true in my artistic life and I’m so happy to have spent a few months feeling a little closer to my mom as we told my families story every night 🥹

El sol, la brisa, el mar, mi ISLA ♥️🏝️

One last show tonight and somehow I’m already reminiscing on this entire experience. I truly don’t know how to sum up what ISLA has meant to me in one post.

It was a true honor to be part of bringing ISLA to an Off-Broadway stage. This story means so much to me because I know what it’s like to immigrate with your family, to leave behind the country you once knew in hopes of a better future.
Getting to tell Sam’s family story and represent Carmen was a privilege I will carry with me forever. @hitthelightsco is truly one of the best companies I have ever worked with. Thank you for trusting me with this beautiful story and welcoming me into your family.

Tonight, we tell this story one last time, and I’m going to breathe in every moment.

“What does [ISLA] represent?

Freedom. Freedom!”

Closing night of ISLA with @hitthelightsco at @wptheater - what a ride it's been - so many years to arrive at this moment in time. For me, tonight is primarily about the gratitude I have for everyone that was a part of making this happen. I'd like to dedicate this closing night performance to all of the hard work that each member of this cast and crew brought to this production. I'm also excited to culminate everything we've learned into a final performance, to see what's next, and to celebrate together having brought a story to life. A story that is about a family that I, and we, love very much. So, if you haven't seen the show yet, get your ticket now before tonight sells out! The energy in the room is going to be special, come be a part of it!

ISLA brings one Cuban family’s history to life through brilliant shadow puppetry, live music, singing, humor, and recorded memories. Following three sisters from Cuba to their new lives in New York, it finds warmth and playfulness even within stories of war and migration. Inventive, personal, and full of theatrical magic, it’s a beautiful celebration of family, memory, and home.

We had the best time visiting our friends at ISLA this week, a new production from @hitthelightsco combining shadow puppetry, cinematic projections, dance, and a fully original score to share the stories of Cuban American families as they hold on to the power of sisterhood, resilience, and imagination in the midst of an ever-changing world.

We had the chance to sit down with the Puppet Team behind the show, swipe through to learn about what it's like to bring a production to life that utilizes over 400 (!!!) puppets.

⭐ ISLA runs through August 29th at the WP Theatre (2162 Broadway, New York, NY)
⭐ Tickets start at $15 - visit the link in our bio to grab yours.
⭐ This show is supported by a @jimhensonfoundation grant.

Don't miss out on the chance to see this heartwarming show! We'll see you at WP Theatre!
