Jesus freaking Christ. This book was an easy 5 out of 5 for me. It’s rare that I find a book to be haunting and to get under my skin. It’s weird as hell and at times a bit stupid, but that’s the point of the madness in this. Why are wolves scary but monkeys funny? A damn alpaca could be terrifying. Hell, even a duck. Probably one of the best horror novels I’ve ever read. 5 out of 5 bananas from me. #bananabrain #csfritz #horror #halloween #books @casey_fritz

This isn’t my usual genre but how can you resist a smoking grim reaper? This was a pleasantly strange ride. There are tough topics but it’s broken up with humor throughout the novel. I really enjoyed reading this one. I was lucky to find a copy that was signed with a sketch inside. There’s also a QR code for a playlist. A fig for all the devils by @casey_fritz

A Fig For All The Devils by C. S. Fritz

I’m not fully sure how I feel about that book….

I went in kind of expecting a “ghost story” or a “creeping death” kind of thing, but was I was given was a coming of age story that was both sad and beautiful.

Honestly. It feels weird to even call this book horror, which it blatantly is as one of the most consistent characters is Death himself, but it’s so beautifully done that it shows death doesn’t have to be scary. It can be a relief. A change. A journey. A friend.

I went into this book not knowing much other than it’s supposed to be a bit of an emotional trip. I’m here to confirm that it is indeed. A trip. An emotional one.

I’m really pleased that I read it. For such a short book it felt like a long journey, but somehow that long journey was exceedingly quick.
Anyway I think I’m just rambling now.

Would I recommend?
Yes. Definitely.

☠️ Book Haul!! ☠️

☠️ I didn’t post last week because I didn’t feel like it, so you get two weeks worth today of watching me burn through my children’s inheritance 😂.

☠️ I got my Aardvark for October that includes a special edition, some buys and freebies from my folks @whosebooks, other orders, a graphic novel, some love from @netgalley, and some new vinyl.

☠️ What Feeds Below: Special Edition x Tatiana Schlote-Bonne (Auto-buy author after The Mean Ones. I don’t even read YA but here we are 😂)

☠️ Carrying x Samantha Josephs (The premise is my kind of crazy 🔥)

☠️ If On a Winter’s Night a Traveler x Italy Calvino (Seems like a mind-bender that won’t make me work too hard.)

☠️ Such Stuff x Hannah Morrish (Debut novella about art and grief. There may be tears. ARC, out 3/9/27)

☠️ Shogun x James Clavell (A classic)

☠️ The Fire Next Time x James Baldwin (A CLASSIC)

☠️ Crater Girl x Polly Schattel (The second trans novel here, this one likened to a season of True Detective. Hell yeah.)

☠️ Brut x Sam Tallent (Some hitman-in-Paris shit. Also hell yeah.)

☠️ Worry Box x Chris Panatier (I have the eARC, but after a few pages I knew I needed a physical copy.)

☠️ Two Fates Edition x C.S. Fritz (Ok so there’s the original version called A Fig for All the Devils, then there’s a darker version subtitled The Grim Ending. This version combines the two. Yes, I now have all three 🥹.)

☠️ Spider-Men: Worlds Collide x Brian Michael Bendis & Sara Pichelli (After finishing Secret Wars, I needed more Miles Morales in the Marvel Universe stories.)

☠️ Everything Looks Better in Red x Gwendolyn Kiste (I loved The Haunted Houses She Calls Her Own, so I was excited about getting this eARC. Drops 4/20/27)

☠️ Pholks x Leon Thomas (Nary a skip 🔥)

I enjoyed every single second of this book. Like a black mirror episode with a serial killer monkey! It was weird in the best way. A movie adaptation of this one would be amazinggggg

I wanted to shout out an amazing author @casey_fritz, thank you for being my new favorite author. You have inspired me to pursue the horror genre even though I have a foot in the children’s literature space.

Books and stories have been a huge part of my life and I think it is important to look at what you liked as a kid/teen and see how it has influenced you as a person today. It’s another way to take care of yourself, and to strengthen your resilience during times of change.

What books do you remember from your childhood? Share in the comments, I want to see what you loved! #books #brainchemistry #horrornerd #afigforallthedevils #writer
