New series. WHY I BOUGHT IT.

I spend an enormous amount of my life looking at art. But what actually makes it onto my own walls (and stays there) is a different question.

So I thought I’d start showing you.

First up: Casey Moore, whose work I very nearly missed because when he first approached me, I said no.

Thank god I looked again.

I bought this photograph because it makes me notice the world differently. I genuinely look at blossom differently because of Casey. And every time I walk past this work in my house, it reminds me that spring comes back. Seasons change. Things die and grow again. And somehow we get to be here for it.

That’s a pretty extraordinary thing for a photograph to do.

And perhaps this series can also prove that collecting art doesn’t have to be intimidating, wildly expensive or reserved for people who already know what they’re doing.

I’ll show you what I’ve bought, why I bought it, and where you can find the artists.

In the age of digital photography, it is so easy to snap a photo, retouch it and send it around the world in an instant through social media. However, there is still a small band of
photographers who prefer the meditative process of printing
their own photographs from negatives.
