If you’re applying for a “real person” casting, ask yourself this first: Would I still look at this brief and think, “That’s me,” if I wasn’t an actor? Because for these jobs, acting skill isn’t the starting point - alignment is. Do you genuinely fit the experience, lifestyle, community or background they’re looking for? If the answer is yes, your performance skills can absolutely help you once you’re in the room or on tape. But being an actor doesn’t automatically make you right for every real person brief. Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is strip away the “performer” first and look at the casting through the eyes of the person they’re actually trying to find. 🎙️ From my conversation with @casperblackcasting on The Drama Coach Podcast. Episode out tomorrow Saturday 19th Sept - be sure to check it out! #TheDramaCoachPodcast #TheDramaCoach #realpeoplecasting #ActorTips #CastingAdvice

Actors - don’t accidentally act yourself out of a “real people” casting. 🎬 One of my favourite takeaways from my conversation with @casperblackcasting If the brief says REAL PEOPLE ONLY, they’re not necessarily looking for actor behaviour. Stating your agent. Showing your hands. Turning to profile. Doing all the things you’ve been trained to do on a standard casting tape… …could actually work against you. Because the genuine runner, parent, teacher, nurse, football fan - whatever the brief is looking for - probably wouldn’t do any of that. So if you’re an actor who genuinely fits a real-person brief? Act like a real person. Such a simple distinction, but potentially a really important one.
