When people think about window design, they usually think about the big ones. The dramatic walls of glass. The floor-to-ceiling windows. The views that immediately catch your attention. But some of the most important windows in a home are often the smallest. At our Bigwin Cottage project, every window was intentionally placed—not just to shape the exterior architecture, but to improve how the home feels and functions from the inside. A bedroom window positioned beside the bed creates balance and frames views beyond. Clerestory windows above the primary vanity bring natural light deep into the room while preserving valuable wall space. Kitchen windows were carefully coordinated with cabinetry, appliances, and workspaces to ensure daylight arrives exactly where it's needed. Great design isn't about adding more glass. Large windows create memorable views. Thoughtfully placed smaller windows shape the daily experience of living in a home. Some experiences stay with you. ✨ This past week we had the privilege of visiting the @subzeroandwolf Global Campus in Madison, from cooking our own breakfast to touring the factory, to a magical afternoon at Sub-Zero’s Harvest Haven Barn. A special thank you to the incredible chefs who guided us through every meal teaching us how to truly use these appliances to their fullest potential. Every dish was extraordinary, and it brought the whole experience to life in the most beautiful way. And then on to Chicago, where we explored the city and visited the stunning @subzeroandwolf showroom at The Mart. What made it all even more special? The incredible group of designers who joined from Toronto and New York, the conversations, the laughter, the shared love of beautiful design. Thank you @reggiefromsubzero @kellyfromsubzeroandwolf and Nick for curating every detail of this trip and making us feel so welcome.

Last week, I (Linnea) had the incredible opportunity to visit the Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove headquarters and factory in Madison, Wisconsin for education, training — and of course, lots of delicious food. First of all, Madison is such a charming town! The headquarters was beyond impressive, and touring the factory where so many of your fridges, ranges, and dishwashers are built was truly unreal. It was amazing to see how many hands go into crafting each appliance. We also got to explore the history and evolution of the iconic Sub-Zero refrigerator and learn more about where the company began. One of the highlights was getting a sneak peek at some innovative new appliances coming to market soon. We even cooked on a brand-new induction range with knobs and a built-in induction griddle feature — so exciting! The trip wrapped up with an incredible dinner and a tour of the beautiful gardens beside their barn, which is surprisingly located right next to the factory. As the sun set, we were even joined by bunnies and wild turkeys wandering through the gardens — such a perfect ending to the visit. A huge thank you to @subzeroandwolf, @reggiefromsubzero, and @kellyfromsubzeroandwolf for inviting me on such a memorable trip!

Set lightly on the Canadian Shield, this Lake Rosseau cottage traces the land rather than sits upon it—its long, low profile extending with the granite’s natural grade. A composition of stone, wood, and metal, the architecture is defined by restraint: horizontal datum lines, a continuous clerestory, and a quiet material palette that weathers into the landscape. Conceived as a retreat, it offers a sense of stillness—an architecture of pause, proportion, and light. Built for a rare, expansive site, the project embraces openness while maintaining intimacy—framing views, filtering light, and grounding itself in the elemental character of the north. #LakeRosseau #MuskokaArchitecture #CanadianShield #ModernCottage #MinimalArchitecture #ContemporaryArchitecture #ArchitecturalDesign #Clerestory #StoneAndWood #ModernRetreat #ArchitectureLovers #DesignExcellence #ArchitecturalPhotography #BoutiqueArchitecture Architecture: Micacchi Architecture Builder: JS Custom Builders Interiors: Cassis Design Landscape: Vaast Landscape Structure: DKG Structural Engineers
