Wren dispels the myth that autistic humans aren’t affectionate, aren’t good with new people and don’t engage.

This is Cat. She’s my friend. And whilst we are super close, this is the first time she’s met Wren in real life. Like most, people feel they know Wren through social media but it’s different in real life.

Cat built an instant connection with Wren. How? She let Wren lead. Wren ignored her at first, no offence taken. And then she slowly eased in. They played together, shared a puzzle, Cat came down to Wren’s level on the floor, she talked about her iPad, she engaged in sensory activities like rocking her, singing to her, letting her play with her hair. Cat knows Makaton too so we signed together and she helped support me. It’s still slow progress getting Wren to take notice but we are pushing on. It might click.

Ultimately Wren lives in the moment, if the moment is fun she enjoys herself - it’s as simple as that. Let her lead, thats where she’s most comfortable.

Thanks Cat. For caring, for understanding, for entering our world and bringing a massive smile to our Saturday morning ♥️♥️♥️
