Now that the weekend has passed, we want to show you the reality on the grounds: mud. Historic, unprecedented rainfall over the previous 6 weeks meant that mud was everywhere. It made the site a major slipping hazard and extremely dangerous for vehicles. Any vehicle entering the mud immediately got stuck or slid unpredictably.

To manage this, we had to build the festival using a few tractors to tow everything in place, and moved our people around with just a couple of UTVs.

And we almost got it done. All stages, primary vendors, and activations were built and ready. The final hurdle was getting you into the campgrounds. We hoped Friday morning’s sun would dry the ground, but even our firmest areas remained squishy and the wettest spots were impassable.

Our team kept fighting, using heavy equipment to back-drag mud from key areas to reveal firmer soil beneath. It worked, but with only precious hours between the rain stopping and doors opening, we ran out of time to get all of the key areas dragged.

Canceling was our hardest decision we’ve ever made, and we only made it when no other options remained. We are deeply sorry to everyone who arrived early and was placed on site. Seeing you trek back and forth with gear broke our hearts. The hayride plan simply couldn’t service everyone in need.

Still, we created some beautiful moments together:

On Thursday night, Krewella threw down an incredible surprise set at the Cider House, supported by Osyris, Dad Jokes b2b Kollapse, Two Dudes One USB and Gigi.B.

On Saturday night, with Onhell and an insanely stacked lineup, we pulled off creating an indoor mini-festival in about 5 hours, and you packed out the house with love, energy and support.

These turnarounds gave us a big shot of optimism and momentum.

If you believe in Symmetry’s future the way we do, please consider donating on our homepage. We need to raise at least $200,000 to bring this back for a proper Year 3, but every dollar helps. Donate now at symmetryfestival.com 💜

The rain didn’t stop pouring for all of September, giving us 13 inches of rain, a record for September in all of Fairfield history
