Today at St Martin in Roath during the Solemn Mass an investiture took place enrolling and vesting five new members of the choir. How blest we are in this place. Welcome Dominic, Catrin, Clara, Emma and Ffion. During their probationary year, they have followed the @rscmcentre Voice for Life Training Scheme ‘White’ level. Thanks to Mali & Juliette who have been responsible for the junior chorister programme. The seed funding for this project was provided by the @cathedralmusictrust and the Ouesely Trust. Funding for the animateur is now provided by FOSMM. Sincere thanks to all who support the work of this charity from St Martin’s and beyond. So shalt thou, gracious Lord, from me receive the glory due; and so shall I begin on earth the song for ever new.

The beautiful setting by Philip Stopford of F.S. Pierpoint’s text “For the beauty of the earth” was the offertory anthem at today’s Solemn Mass.

In addition to singing Victoria’s Missa “O quam gloriosum et regnum”, the junior choir lead the singing of the communion motet. We thank God for the gift of music and for those who enrich our liturgy with such beautiful voices.

🎶 Choral Services this week at Newcastle Cathedral

Another full week of choral music, with Evensong from Monday to Thursday and the Cathedral Choir singing both services on Sunday.

🌟 This Sunday at 4pm, we celebrate a generous £28,700 grant from the Cathedral Music Trust, awarded through its Cathedral Music Support Programme. The funding supports the appointment of our new Junior Lay Clerks, as well as the continued support of the Cathedral’s existing Lay Clerks - an important investment in the future of our choral tradition.

We are enormously grateful to the Cathedral Music Trust for its support and look forward to celebrating the award together at Choral Evensong. The Cathedral Choir will sing music by Park and Jackson, concluding with Jonathan Dove’s atmospheric Seek him that maketh the seven stars.

Earlier at 10am, the Cathedral Choir sings the Eucharist, with music by Josquin and Elder.

All are warmly invited to join us throughout the week - and particularly for this special celebration on Sunday! 🎵
