Some people know her as the Godmother of the Metaverse.

I know her as one of those rare people where you meet once and just know: this is the start of something.

Meet Cathy Hackl @cathyhackl

We first met on stage, in a fireside chat at Global AI Show. One conversation in, it was clear we were looking at the same future from two sides. Cathy from spatial computing, physical AI and the next computing era. Me from the capital that will fund it.

We kept in touch after that. Not the polite “let’s stay connected” kind. The real kind.

Then at Step, Cathy joined us and shared her insights with RaiseTalks. Generous, sharp, and exactly what founders need to hear right now: what comes after the LLM wave, and where the next big companies will be built.

You can’t plan a match like that. You just recognise it when it happens.

EQUS X is here, and the priority access waitlist is open. 🔐

You decide who gets access to your data, for how long, and you can delete it before that window closes. Your data is never mined, trained on, or sold.

Building for business? EQUS DTK, our developer toolkit, is now in beta.

We spent Monday through Wednesday in Washington, DC as a sponsor of the Agentic AI House with Modev and a Golden Business Partner at the AI in Washington Conference at American University, where I spoke on the 5 Deadly Sins of AI. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk privacy and agents with our team.

What if we could bring someone back after they died?
Not their body. Their voice, their memories, the way they told a story. That's already technically possible, and companies are building it now.

A few minutes of recorded audio is enough to clone a voice convincingly. Feed in their messages, emails, voice notes and letters, and a language model can learn how they wrote, what they joked about, how they argued. Add video, and you have something that looks back at you. Companies like HereAfter AI and StoryFile already offer versions of this, some built while the person is still alive, recording answers to questions they know they'll be asked one day. Others assembled afterwards, by families, from whatever was left behind.

When this came up with @CathyHackl, her first instinct was to shut it down. Mine was too. Then she said something that stopped me: what if it helped someone grieve?

Grief is supposed to end in acceptance, but I'm not sure what acceptance looks like when their voice is still answering you. Would it help us let go, or stop us from ever having to?

What happens when you can give a romantic partner a name, a personality, your likes and dislikes, all as adjustable as a settings menu? What does intimacy even mean when it can be edited and curated?

This is the conversation I couldn't stop thinking about after we filmed... In episode one, @CathyHackl tells me about the experiment everyone asks her about: creating and dating four AI boyfriends ❤️‍🔥

But it took us somewhere bigger than the experiment... What does it do to us to be understood by something before we've even finished the thought? What happens to the way we connect with each other, and with ourselves, when closeness becomes something we can design? Maybe we're not just adding AI into our lives. Maybe we're slowly becoming something else entirely. And if that's true, the question I keep coming back to is the one this whole show is built on. What does it still mean to be human? 🦾💖

Episode one is live now on YouTube and all streaming platforms. Link in bio. 🎙️

Picture your family portrait, 10 years from now.

Is there a robot in it? A hologram of someone who passed away? A cloned dog?

That's the thought experiment @cathyhackl , CEO of Future Dynamics, dropped on the #SouthSummit26 stage during her HumAln Futures keynote. And it hit differently than a slide deck
